I started writing my first Amiga demo recently, and I've decided to blog the process here if anyone's interested; I make no claims as to whether it'll be interesting, useful, or even regularly maintained, and there's a reasonable chance the finished demo will be a bit pony too -- all my coding experience is in the exciting world of databases, backends for websites, and other business-related crud so I'm flexing mental muscles I didn't know I had.

Anyway, pop along, give me some moral support and suggestions, and maybe it'll see a release this year. Smile

Yep, keep us informed - it should be an interesting read Smile

What 'language' will you be using?

C++ -- trying to deal with assembler causes my brain to reboot. Smile

Anyone used the Cubic IDE? I tried the demo, but due to the restrictions on the editor buffer and hte fact that the demo won't compile anything (kind of removing the entire purpose of and IDE) with the demo it's not really useable for long enough to get a real feel for what's it's like to live in, so for now I'm actually writing the code in OS X, but it's not ideal. (I just had a brilliant idea! Some sort of AREXX port provided by UAE so applications on the host OS can talk to the emulated machine...)

Hmm, the blog kind of stalled, but the code is still going; I've got a few effects cobbled together, but I'd like someone to try it on a range of real hardware before proceeding -- anyone got any suggestions of somewhere to upload it?

Very interesting, or at least it could be if you write more Very Happy

Perhaps you could also post (blog) about what tools you're using (which compiler etc, more technical things in general)? I'm kind of in the same situation as you (Linux sysadmin who's trying to get back to amigacoding) and would be really interested in stuff like that.

As for a place to upload you files, dunno. Most free sites sucks, but I'd be happy to host them for you on a fast server if you can't find a good place.

Once real life settles down I'll try and post a bit more; I always start these things with the best of intentions, but I'm easily distracted. Rolling Eyes

Good to see you're working on this, however it's actually against the rules to link directly to the Zone even on EAB let alone other sites so I've had to remove your link, sorry.

No problem; I just came back to edit my post, but you've saved me the effort. Smile (That'll teach me to actually read the terms and conditions rather than just ticking the box that said I'd read them. Embarassed )

Just a quick thumbs up to your progress so far. Visually, I like the overlapping star graphic most. No idea what's technically best - I'm only a layman. But mathshit is always fun too. Wink
