Hi Y'all
I woud like to say 'hi'.
I own an Amiga 500 and have done so since about '86-'87. Due to space limitations in my wee house (and a wife who would doesn't understand my fascination for computers the size of a small house), it has been placed nice and safely in its box, replete with "Batman Pack" casing.
Therefore, I moved onto using an emulator and, just WINUAE running adf games, so I could get my fix of classics like Wings, It Came from the Desert, Bloodwych, Floor 13... plus a few others. Anyway, I decided to give emulating a A1200 a go with HD (I have lost count of the number of previously failed attempts)... but this time... SUCCESS!!!
I CAN PLAY SPACE ACE WITHOUT THE NEED TO TAKE A DAY OFF WORK JUST TO SWAP THE DISK BACK AND FORTH... wait... is there even a WHD version of the game?!?! I hope so.
Anyways, I am at work now... with only 4 hours sleep under my belt due to sorting the HD and Workbench configs out... it really is like being back in my late teens!
Now, just gotta go find those 4 crystals once more... wait for me Murlock! |

| I have been fiddling with Emualtors for years, though mostly MAME, PINMAME and a Speccy one. I always found WINUAE that little bit clunky, but decided to give it another try as I loved my Amiga above all machines owned before and after. I have often come to this forum in the past, but never joined... glad I did and I am glad to now be here. |

Thanks to all those who made the effort to say welcome. I pop in most days to have a looksie at the comings and goings on the forum. I also popped into a Speccy site, as the 48k, like the Amiga, will be forever dear to me.
Though this site doesn't seem to have the same level of activity as the other forum, I am still pleasantly surprised at the amount of people who do come here and bask in the nostalgia of the golden age of home computers and arcade games.
Simple as some of these games, as simple as they may appear by today's standards, are just so much better than much of what is released now. They may not have as much depth or offer as much variety, but they seem to have a balance and addictive quality because of the thought that has been put into them. We couldn't just be overwhelmed by sound and graphics, so greater effort was placed into gameplay.
Has there ever been a god game as good as populous / II? Populous III, with it lush (at the time) graphics just missed the point and was, at best, average in compared to its father / grand father.
Has a space trading game ever come along since Elite that was as immersive or offered as rich gameplay as it did, considering the machines capabilities. I can't think of one.
I think all I am trying to say here is, I am glad that there are likeminded people here who enjoy and celebrate these great systems as much as I do.
Cheers
Worts
PS - Love the games competitions you run, I just need a game to play that I am slightly more competent at than Superfrog! |
