The mods have been chatting about a few tweaks to the Super League. Nothing's set in stone. So I'll lay out the ideas we're leaning towards at the moment, and everyone can say what they think is good, bad, or make a new suggestion. There's lots of of time left of course, but since this is the only gap left this year it gives us something to chat about. Wink

(I'll copy what Graham summarized here)
Basically we are probably going to increase the number of rounds from 12 to 14 next season. And it'll be split into two legs rather than three; the first leg, rounds 1-7, will start January 17 and end June 19. Rounds 8-14 will run from July 11 to December 4, with the Knockout in the usual spot. So there will only be a three-week break at the halfway stage.

Also we are going to dump the sequels special round for next year as we decided it was maybe a bit dull playing two very similar games at once and there isn't an awful lot of choice anyway (as well as the debates about what qualifies as a sequel or not - i.e. Slam Tilt). In its place we're going to have a 'year' round - where, of course, you can only vote for games from a specified year. To keep things sensible the years to be chosen will be limited from 1987 to 1995 - though possibly an option to lump all pre-'87 and post-'95 games together might be included if people like that idea.

It'll work the same as the letter round, as in the winner of a previous round will get the choice.

So the special rounds will be, from next year:

Round 4 - PD Games
Round 8 - Games released in a certain year (winner of round 6 chooses)
Round 12 - Games beginning with a certain letter (winner of round 10 chooses)

So there we have it. Any comments?

If you want ideas I've got a few....but you may all think they're rubbish.

What about a "year long" challenge which is voted/chosen from the outset and only closes in December. It would have to be a game where there really is room for improving your score.

For example; the fastest lap of the final circuit of Super Cars 2 on hard level. So you would have to build up your car and arsenal of weapons, spending your money in such a way as to prime youself for the final race. OR maybe just a platform/shootemup that is awesomely long neverending with may hidden features like James Pond II; Robocod. OR possibly a tradeing type game...Elite/Frontier?

I like the idea of more varied or bigger challenges. Normally people just set them up seperately, like when I was interested in taking part in a F1GP full season but it never happened.

If you're thinking of it as being one round of the league that takes place over the year and adds points at the end, then it might be possible. Would have to be a good challenge that enough people agree on though. That'll be the hard part. If anyone's got any specifics, post it and we'll see what support there is.

Good idea - how about Stunt Car Racer + Stunt Car Racer TNT and we play every 16 tracks over a year (1 track each 3 weeks...).

I don't mind the idea of having a year-long compo of some sort, in fact I think it could be quite interesting but it would be a bit of a 'mare to have it as a Super League round I think. Would prefer to keep it separate. Also wouldn't want a game yet to be played in the League as that would detract people from voting for it.

I guess the reason for my idea is that the current set up favours (for obvious reasons) games that don't require a massive investment of time. Because of that there is a massive chunk of Amiga games that don't get played.

The big question is how you score the long round...does it get awarded the same as any other round or more? After a bit of thought I reckon Microprose F1 Grand Prix would work well, possible like john4p says, with a track a month.[/list]

Hmmm, a year long compo? I think it could get slightly tedious after a few month Confused

I don't think that was quite what was being suggested. I think it was one game over the year as well as the normal schedule.

How exactly will we incorperate this into the league though? use it as a tiebreaker or somthing? or just leave it as an independant competition?

That's the question. I haven't thought of anything that would work in the league as yet. There are certainly a few games that could work well separately for over a month or even a whole year. Maybe Dune 2, or a golf tournament.

I cant see any way this would replace the current competition, so dont let that thought prevent you from putting ideas forward! Very Happy

If or how it might be tied into the current comp is another question.
