I have downloaded the latest version of UAE, which came with an extensive list of fixes and improvements including "Built-in lha/lzh and lzx support". Unfortunately, there is no similarly extensive list of instructions on how to use said features ...

I have tried to load an .lha file in the same manner as a floppy disk file, but that had no effect whatsoever, so I gather that isn't what it means. Could anyone perhaps point me to a nice user-friendly guide to someone new to WinUAE, as it doesn't seem to have much in the way of documentation.

I didn't even know that WinUAE was supposed to be able to run them. I always extracted them and ran the ADF/DMS files.

Allegedly the latest version does, but if there is some sort of built-in decompression tool I have yet to find it. Unfortunately, my current unzipping program only extracts a series of nameless, useless files from lha archives. Is there any way to convert them into workable adf files?

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to recognise .lha as a valid hardfile type. Whatever it claims in the readme file, I'm beginning to suspect they forgot to implement this supposed update.

i dont think so. i've certainly used the function myself, although i no longer use winuae at all.
....

just booted XP up and it works fine - however i made on mistake in that it's even more obvious than i thought. use "Add Dirctory or archive" instead of add hard file.
