Gonna be a great round, Great options for point scoring with the capturing enemies rather than killing them, going to be interesting! |
That, er *cough* is technically score leaching.... |

no it is not. monsters are not respawning in MP (always the same number in the level) and capturing them is crucial to get stars (and in effect items: teleports, weapons..) and points - there is something I would call "system" (it is about how the sweets, weapon boosts, milk bottles and stars appear) and one has to use some tactics while killing baddies
The problem with leeching in MP is that after you get some items (can't remember which) you throw a coin for 1000 points every tenth shot (or something like that?). But I think as long as nobody stands in place and shoots purposefully to gather the coins it is alright.

Sorry john4p you're totally correct. I'd forgotten that baddies don't regenerate. As for the coin throwing for every 10th shot, I wonder if we should suggest to mods that people screengrab a high score shot that shows the world and level numbers. Not sure if that's possible (I'll have a look later). That way it could be quite clear if any leaching has occurred(?).
Gonna be a good round this one! |

But I think with most of these rounds we have to take it on 'faith' that nobody is cheating. There is no palpable reward and I trust all who enter. _________________ Never trust a man with a mustache...

I must admit, I used to trust everyone who entered. But these days some of the scores that pop up are quite frankly crazy, makes you wonder if some people are using save states at the least.
You and I, Shawn, might agree there is no palpable reward....but some people "have" to win for whatever reason. I used to be a small time contributor to a SNES message board back in about 2003. We had a comp where we didn't even bother with screenshots to back up score claims. The number of scores people posted that we later defined as "not possible" were bonkers. Several times we played shootemups and people posted scores with one digit more than the game supported!
It's sad, coz if you try REALLY hard at a game you're not that gifted with and then come last it gets annoying....just ask mike and I! |

I fully trust all the top scorers (rexsu, Anakirob, capehorn, jPV and others).
As for myself - I take fairplay very seriously and even refuse to watch those playthroughs from Recorded Amiga Games. I like to figure out everything myself.
Savestates are evil - glad we all agreed to not even allow them for practicing.
I can only accept (and even endorse) one form of cheating: using autofire. |

I trust everyone too, mostly because I have no choice. We are all grown up people... I think
For the competition to be 100% fair one would have to partake in a round only if he/she has never played the game before - no training, no levels known by heart, no solutions read, tabula rasa! |

I only watched one longplay video, the one for Gods and I didn't enter a score because I followed it and I was terrible anyway.

I try to play all the games on my A500 that are compatible, except Dune 2, I was too lazy to send them over the null modem cable and wait about 8 minutes per disk and play swap the disk when playing the game as I only had 1 disk drive.

My Konix Speedking has auto fire, but back in the day I only had Quickshot joysticks without autofire so I don't use it anyway. |
