Something amazing happened in Populous 2

Hey guys
Not sure if this is rare but I have never seen this in all my years of playing. I was playing a quick skirmish game and I noticed on the map there were lots of whites dots in the middle of the ocean, I went up to investigate and found lots of whirlpools and hurricanes, and some kind of huge winged creature just travelling across the map! Without a care in the world, it went straight through my town and caused havoc! Im pretty certain it wasnt an enemy attack.
I have never seen or heard this mentioned before, has it happened to anybody else?

Yes, there are plentys of those mythological creatures, driven independently by the computer.

Yeah there are a bunch of different kinds of monsters in Populous 2 that pop up.

The Harpy creates whirlwinds
The Gorgon turns people to stone
Talos the golem stomps holes in the ground like the earthquake
Typhon the dragon leaves a trail of fire I think
I think there is another monster that makes swamps and a tree like creature that makes trees I believe.

In fact there are monsters that also show up in Populous 1. There's a blob that creates swamps, a wizard on a flying carpet that makes trees and a rock monster that makes rocks.

love it when you find new things like that in such an old game, really makes it worthwhile to keep playing them.

They act randomly. Sometimes it takes hours for one to appear, sometimes they come few times per level.

Forgot all about Poseidon popping up.

Basically if you control most of the map the monsters start popping up as a way of nudging you to finish off your opponent.

One thing I missed in Populous 2 was the ash landscape (with lava instead of water!) that was in the first game. They replaced it with swamp but the swamp environment just looked like a darker version of grass.
