This is why i bought an Amiga 500 with USB Floppy Emulator. It cost less and although it is a lot larger than this new device you get a big bit of classic computing history in front of you.
Ho and you get one of the best keyboards ever !!! |

It should be noted that most big screen LCDs do not support the 50hz video-mode refresh rate that the VGA MCC-216 outputs in PAL.
Maybe you should put a disclaimer on your website, since there are already several VGA-users who have this issue (see original lemon64 thread) and needed VGA to HDMI convertors in order to get a display. |

The current MCC-216 support in the VGA version the following resolutions:
PAL: 800x640 with 50Hz and NTSC with 800x640 and 60 Hz.
You can switch between PAL and NTSC with the keyboard and this should work with most of the TVs out their. However we recognize the fact that most of the games where written for the PAL AMIGA.
We where talking about up-scaling the resolution to upscale to 1280x1024 @ 60 Hz and do not allow 50 Hz mode, in 1280x1024 resolution.
Anyhow our recommendation would be to check the specification of your big screen TV if it supports 50Hz and 60Hz VGA input. If not you might be better of to look into the S-video version. This give you a wide range of compatibility and the quality is quite nice as well.[/quote] |

Yes why not....
Let's keep the AMIGA alive one way or the other.
We try to get as much as possible classic computers and retro gaming devices ported to the Multiple Classic Computer. This is our way to preserve the good old hardware and software for the next generation.
On top we added a nice HMI which allows you to select the games and applications with one button click. That should work for everyone. Even if you have never experienced the original AMIGA.
Have fun with your AMIGA.
Happy Retro Gaming ! |

I think you mean 640x480 at 50hz (PAL) and 640x480 at 60hz (NTSC), right?
On lemon64 you said that the MCC-216 outputs a VGA signal which is conform to the EIA/CEA-861-B specification (table 15). However, in that specification, no 640X480p50 mode (50hz) is listed.

Yes, 60hz/NTSC works fine on LCD-TVs with VGA-input, since this is a normal VGA refresh rate. However, few LCD-TVs properly sync at 50hz over VGA.

Why is an upscaling to 1280x1024 needed at all? All LCD-TVs accept 640x480 resolutions. It is more important to upsample the 50hz to 60hz in order to make the MCC-216 PAL core work on most common LCD-TVs.
Could this be done in the firmware or is this only possible via HW-modifications? |

| Did anyone ever find a Kick rom that works with this. I have tried several ways to extract one from amiga forever and I can't seem to get it to work. |

Yes, I did. I used a PS/2 optical mouse while I tried the (buggy and incomplete) amiga core.
It's a Genious mouse with an USB to PS/2 adapter. Works as expected. |

Hi RetroFan, I really like the MCC216, congratulations!
Will you bundle it with Amiga Forever?
I live outside USA, since on the eBay store the joysticks are not sold separately, it would be nice to publish a bundle with 2 joysticks (in my country is very difficult to find one with this connector).
Maybe it would useful for new customers if you publish more information about the NTSC and PAL issue everybody is commenting, for example which type of monitors will always work (PC monitors?).
Good luck and keep on developing the MCC216, maybe I'll buy one on the future. |

With NTSC over VGA, there are no issues since basically all computer monitors support a resolution of 640x480 with a refresh rate of 60hz. This is also a video mode (called 480p).
When using PAL, things are different and the output of the MCC-216 equals to 720x576 with a refresh rate of 50hz. This is not a standard VGA resolution, but a video mode called 576p.
The problem is that most computer monitors do not support a refresh rate as low as 50hz, so you end up with a black display and an "out of sync" message.
You need to look at the data sheet of your monitor, specifially the vertical refresh rate. If it's something like 56-75hz, then chances are low that you get an image in PAL mode.
While LCD-TVs (at least the European ones) are usually able to accept 576p video-modes, they commonly do this only via Component or HDMI-input.
Some hybrid LCD-TVs also feature VGA-input, but usually these ports are only meant for VGA computer resolutions (e.g. 1024x768@60hz), but not video modes such as 576p. In this case, you need to transcode the signal from VGA to Component, e.g. using the Audio Authority 9A60 transcoder.
Hope this explains it a bit. |

Any more experiences to share with the beta Amiga core? On lemon64, RetroFan mentioned that rougly 50% of the games should work. What is your assessment?
I am still waiting for the MCC-216 being shipped (takes a while from the US to Europe) and will then post my experiences.
@RetroFan
What are your current priorities regarding .arg-development? In my view, it would be best to "finish" the current cores (particularly Amiga and C64) before starting with any new systems. Unless external developers are able to assist with that, of corse... |
