What about transmissions? Must be on manual or it doesn't matter?
Never played this game as a kid tho' and game doesn't look very intriguing to me but I'll try at least.

Doesn't matter - whether you have it automatic or manual is a personal choice.

Another day, another competition. This time it’s one of my all time favourites – Vroom. Some of us may not have played this before, so I’ve gone all-out to make sure everybody gets all the help they need; - so that we can have an amazing F1 championship fight before the compo summer break. Very Happy

If you’re new to the game and want to find out how to play it: including what all the buttons and switches do, and how to do the pitstops, why not check my Review of Vroom here on lemon.

For even more hints and tips, along with a track-by-track/corner-by-corner race breakdown, why not check out my Vroom Drivethru Guide.

The first thing you’ll notice is that Vrooms opponents – unlike Lotus – are actually quite intelligent, and run at different speeds and have various levels of aggression. I thought I was good at driving games until I played this…

Scoring: To give you an idea of how well you’re doing, here’s a quick look-up table. In the first column we see the ‘Average Score’ for each track – this is not the minimum score you can achieve in order to qualify, this is an average score based on averaging many scores on the same track. If you match this, you are indeed on the pace. Next to this is the highest potential Maximum Score the very best drivers could hope to gain from each track, based on averaging my own very highest scoring runs. In the third column is a rolling score based on meeting the ‘Average’ on each track, and in the final column is the Maximum Rolling Score based on achieving the Maximum results throughout. This theoretically means the very highest final score would be in the region of 97+ thousand points.

………….Average Score…………Maximum Score……….Average Rolling…….Max Rolling Sc.
Track 1:……..15k………….......………..18k+………..……….…….15k………......…………18k+
Track 2:……..15k……….......…………..20k+………..……….…….30k………......…………38k+
Track 3:……..10k………….......………..13k+………..………….….40k…….….....…………51k+
Track 4:……..12k………….......………..16k+………..………….….52k…….….....…………67k+
Track 5:……..10k………….......………..12k+………..………….….62k…….….....…………79k+
Track 6:……..13k………….......………..18k+………..………….….75k…….….....…………97k+

For all you visual learners out there, here’s a video I made today to kick off the competition; showing an example of a modest score from me. I played this under an 030 setup, because I like it nice and fast Smile Even so, these videos are a cam rips, and due to frame rate bugs they appear slightly faster than I actually played it. Contains occasional swearing.

Part 1 : Races 1 - 3 [HD]

Link

Part 2 : Races 4 - 5 [HD]

Link

So that’s it then! - a score of: 68,694

Think you can do better? Why not have a go?

More scores will be following soon…!!!

Hats off to you for all the guides you've put together.

EDIT: Also the first score to ever be submitted by video!

Thanks - I thought it would be fun, and it was. - mostly Wink

I think it's also worth it's also worth mentioning that this game really does benefit from a decent processor. I use an 030 under emulation; which plays it just is as fast as I remember it being with a Blizzard 1230IV. Smile

Also - If the game plays with flickering backgrounds, it might help to turn off any caches, and under emulation it is possible to turn on 'Cycle Exact', and turn off 'Immediate Blitter' from the Chipset menu.

A500 users will experience a significanly slower game Shocked

Cutting edge stuff on the LA forum game comp!

I once took a screen photo with a camera phone, emailed it to myself, uploaded and posted it onto the forum. But, hey, I don't like to brag about it

It didn't help when Mrs. Dimery was sniggering at me every time a wheel flew off, not through bad driving, they just....weren't...attached....correctly. That is my story and im sticking with it.

Mrs Lines takes great pleasure in flicking my ears at crucial times. During pang she cost me at least 100k.

@Graham: some of these city folk have some wondrous magical tech. Posting scores with a video camera, whatever next.
