I picked up a cheap A600 a while back, and with the CF card from Amigakit it's up and working nicely.

However, the floppy drive is a bit flaky - It has trouble reading disks reliably, but the problem is intermittent.

I'm going to try to find a 3.5" cleaning disk, but it that doesn't solve the problem, what are my options? Can I use the floppy mechanism from an Amiga 500, or other source?

We seem to be having a lot of floppy drive questions of late. Basically, if you try to remove the mechanism from another drive you'll have to use something to re-align the heads. I never had this tool so my efforts resulted in no improvement. As I said on another thread, I tried all kinds of cleaners and disks but nothing ever worked until I bought a new drive.

Are we talking about one or two disks being affected?

How does the problem manifest itself - error messages (what kind) or other?

In the mean time if you have long forgot.

If you have a spare external floppy drive:

If you hold both mouse buttons down when you fire up your Amiga you can direct DF1: as the boot drive & disable DF0:, if the game allows it of course...

I was able to borrow a 3.5" cleaning disk from a friend - seems to have fixed it up nicely. Still need to test some more disks, but the couple I tried work better now.
