Would any body be interested in creating one?
I need a new project and thought this would be interesting after Lifeschool mentioned it (briefly).
I will code (and design if necessary). Im doing this for fun and to improve and occupy myself.
Firstly I want someone to provide direction and motivation who understands my skills may be limited.
Other possible ways to help
- A decent designer
- Groupies to inspire and motivate

It sounds really interesting--what is it, exactly? _________________ Who is John Galt?

Its just an idea at the moment.
A website were you can post you all time highscores for any Amiga game, like "twin galaxies". _________________

Just saw this thread, yeah I think it's a great idea. The Amiga could do with an international high scores page. I think Scorelord did a job job for the c64, with everything all on one page, with a simple email link for posting scores. It would be great to include the screenshots on such a site so that it helps to rule out cheats and savestates, although not foolproof obviously. You already have a great start with the scores we have attained so far over the years in the compo, but some of those screenshots have already been taken down by those users, so having those screens on a dedicated server makes a lot of sense.
I don't know what I could offer you at the moment other than encouragement and support. I'm also making a web site for the Amiga, based on Amiga interviews from all over the web collated in just one place - but this is a hobby site not ready to demo yet, and it may be worth posting a link to it by Christmas. |

| Something along the lines of MARP - marp.retrogames.com - would be interesting and fun, if someone had the time and energy to put it together and run it. It would only be possible if WinUAE or other emulator has a record game feature to create files similar to MAME's .INP (input) files. |

Yeh I'm in. Whilst I do have some experience in design and HTML I'm also struggling to find the time to post scores in the comp, let alone invest in a new project.
Out of interest would you convert all the last 3 years of comp scores straight into it to fill it out for the initial launch? There's obviously also all the pinball score tables etc. Would be pretty easy to do, I guess if you gave me the format required I might look into how that might happen? |

Still thinking about this.
Completely blank about how this might look, so i decided to do some backend stuff, one very tentative step taken.
I have an idea about making a page for each game which looks like the highscore table of the games (popular, easy to replicate ones), and a default theme for other games. I have one designed for dune II that i made about 4-5 years ago.
Thinking vaguely about the site title... _________________

Sooooo. Would this be like a more informal twin galaxies? I'm wondering about the practical side of things first. Would people have an account and upload scores, or submit stuff via email or forum? What proof are you going for - png, video?
Not sure what I can bring to help. I'm currently working on a pretty big site myself to get started in January. I can help bounce around some design and layout ideas. Maybe when my site is running I can find time for something more. I can groupie a little.
Each game should have it's own page. Like the idea for custom scoreboards, does it simply have the right background? Site title is a toughy. I tend to name things quite obscurely but can't think of much to do with highscores and Amiga. Something like 'Score Attack' or 'Amiga Rat', a turn on the phrase Arcade Rat (peeps who spend all day there). Might inspire you a little.
@Lifeschool
You still working on that interview site idea? Sounds good and I would certainly find it useful and interesting. _________________

^ Haven't touched that site in ages. I got bored with a redesign a few months back, and then I got heavily into the video reviews and haven't had time since. Perhaps I'll take another look at it again in the new year...
In the meantime, I'm still working with the AmigaPD.com site to submit interview questions. You can expect another joint interview from AmigaPD soon.
edit: you can see my demo site here: (only the developer and musician database have anything worth seeing - still MUCH to do)

Fair enough. I did wonder how you could find the time for so many things. Sites got a funky design, very cool that you can open windows on there. Looks like you've got a lot of info already. _________________

Im hoping no account will be required, depends how much trouble securing it turns out to be.
Failing that, my anticipated fall back at this time is a dedicated thread on Lemon to post high-scores to then manually add them to site.
Email is a possibility, but would it be a deterrent to potential posters?
Proof would be along the lines of the competition rules, Video would be a PITA. _________________

Email would be a deterrent and a PITA, as would video.
I don't know anything about security. You know I dabbled with php/sql a while back but never had time to get very practical with it. I would have thought if people were updating a database of their best scores they'd need an account? Or can they submit scores to the database with an online form and have the scoreboard deselect lower scores by the same player? Or am I on the completely wrong track?
Doing it via forum is a fine fallback, just takes more time and effort. Score keeping was much harder before your help. _________________

Yep.
I have a basic upload thing going, need to tie that to an SQL database then i will look for a tester.
I may have an issue with unique usernames, no accounts remember (doh, late for work now) _________________

If you can sort that out it should come together nicely. Then it's just a matter of looks. For the record the twingalaxies website is ugly. You could do a much cleaner look with it just being amiga scores. Front page could have a quick intro, link to rules and info page, sidebar with most recent scores updated, and a big search section for games. Have an alphabet to select by title and they appear below. Something like that. And of course site banner and search box and link for upload form. Should be simple enough. _________________
