I first discovered Amiga in my friends bedroom on christmas day 1990.
My first Amiga was christmas day 1993....an A600 WWW pack that was reduced to £199.
Commodore died for me in 1994 when they went bankrupt. The Amiga was doomed from then. I used my 600 until 1995 but with so few games coming out I started using my brothers Playstation not long after that.
But the playstation was the evil I had always avoided in my computing days...A CONSOLE. I had grew up with a Commodore 16+4, then a Commodore 64, then an Atari Ste and then an Amiga. I hated the very sight of the SNES or Megadrive and I hated the playstation.
I lost interest in gaming for many years until I purchased at PS2 on launch day. But even though I liked using it...gaming was never the same. An Xbox and and Xbox 360 followed...but the buzz just isnt there...I still hate consoles.
In 2004 I discovered ebay and bought myself a 600...and now I have a collection of Amigas and Ataris and I use my Amiga 1200 everyday.
Commodore died for me in 94...But Amiga will live forever and whilst I am using my Amiga...my love for gaming will always be there too.
As for CommodoreUSA.... aload of nonsense that is not Commodore. A quick buck using the name of a computing legend is all that this nonsense is about.
There is only one Commodore....it was a great company with great people working within it.... RIP Commodore...gone but never forgotten! _________________ Amiga 1200 ACA1230/56 64mb Ram 4GB Hd OS3.1

I actually kept playing on old Amiga games until as far as 1997. Then, my brother bought the first PC with his first paycheck. By 1998 our Amiga 500 had been disassembled and stored in the basement. I don't think I ever played an Amiga game released after 1993, though. _________________ "How you dare, you fool? I shall return and then it is you who will die!" |

Actual physical Amiga usage finished around late 1998.
Had 3 upgraded A500s by then (2 acquired from a local high school). However, the DF0 drives on each had ultimately packed it in, so they were in storage for a few years before being given away.
In hindsight, should have sought knowledge on how to repair them. However, was also into Macs from the early 1990s, until going completely PC in 1999.
Although there no longer any Amiga games in the stores from about 1994(?) was very content infrequently firing up SWOS, Speedball 2, Pushover, Pinball Dreams/Fantasies, Turbo Lotus 1 + 2, Elite, Desert Strike, PGA Tour Golf, IK+, etc, etc until 1998.....
Now, enjoy very infrequent EMU Amiga gaming. However, can no longer play SWOS or Speedball 2 if my life depended on it. Keyboard, PC sticks/gamepads + the USB Competition Pro for winUAE usage are no good for me. |

1990 - That was the year I picked up a gaming magazine and saw an ad for Wing Commander. Upon seeing the screenshots, I initially assumed that it was an Amiga game, since up to that point, the Amiga screenshots were usually featured in most ads. Then I read that were from the IBM version, with no Amiga version mentioned. I knew from that point on that the Amiga was doomed. When the Amiga version finally came out it was so choppy as to be unplayable on a stock system, while the DOS version played fine on a 386.
I ended up using the Amiga for the next decade, as the software support dried up. I didn't start using a Windows system until about 2000 or so. |

| 1996, we kept using out 1200 until then, but we got a pc then, primary factor was more games that we could play on the system and my ma needed to use programmes for work and they were all windows based. |

Pretty much the same year and reason, except with A500. |

Probably when I was 20. Which was 1993. The year I bought my first 486 DOS machine. |

I think 1995 my technical (electronics) education at that time depended heavily on the PC.
Beeing tired of the slow progress in Amiga hardware I switched to the PC.
Beeing spoiled to death with: Doom I & II, Diablo ,Heretic, Hexen, Quake, SYSTEM SHOCK I and II, Unreal, Half-life.... I never looked back.
After about the year 2000 al the FPS's seem to be the same and slowly started to miss the Amiga again...and now approaching 2012 it is sad to say that the only PC higlights were:
- System shock
- Resident evil I and II
- Warcraft I and II
- Starcraft I and II
- Abe's oddyssee / Exodus
- AVP I and II
- Deus ex I and II
- Wing Commander
- Crusader I and II
- Need for speed I and II (after that they all seemed the same)
- Jagged Alliance
- Doom series
- Carmageddon
- Duke nukem
- Bioforge
- Redneck rampage
- Quake
- Diablo (personally Diablo II wasn't as good as I .... my opinion)
- Half-life series
- Dungeon Keeper I and II
- C&C / Red Alert / Generals
- Total annahilation / Supreme commander I
- Unreal
- Crysis 1
- Never Winter Nights
- Dungeon siege I and II
- Almost everything from Bioware
That's about it concering my personal highlights... maybe I forgot a few...
But from 1995 to 2012 (well...it's almost 2012) , it's not that a big of list
One must admit that developing is a costly thing due to the hardware evolution... but come on...
The devs have so many resources now, a lot of them (not all) have a lot of financial backing and still a lot of the releases don't excite and grip you like they did back in the day...
(okay okay...we "old-timers"...are a bit spoiled...I have to admit that to)
ID, Origin Systems, Blizzard and BioWare, Bullfrog, were the creme de la creme when it came to releases...but nowadays...Aaargh... I'm rambling on... don't mind me... |

I think it was when the 386 became available.
Sadly Commodore had no chance by sticking with the 68000 type architecture. If only Motorola had been able to come up with better CPUs. Back then, restarting from scratch like Apple did was probably not an option, so the Amiga was doomed. |

| Well, yes, the whole x86 line was and still is pretty crappy. But the 386 offered good performance for the buck. The dealer price per 1k units was below $100 already in the early 90s. At that time, the 68060 wasn't even available - so naturally the PC sales took off. |
