Hi, I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem with an A1200.
It was recently dug out of its storage drawer, and still boots up fine, but the display is in black and white. It is connected up from the RF socket on the Amiga to the aerial socket on the back of a CRT TV.
Does the lack of colour mean that something has broken / worn out, as I remember it working properly years ago?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. |

I think your TV is not correctly tuned. _________________

Sounds right, try fine tuning/manual tuning, moving the bar a few steps either way might be enough to get the colour back. _________________ Check out my blog RGO below, latest post now up!

I tried the fine tuning, but no luck: still b&w.
Also tried connecting to the aerial input on video recorder and aerial input on the TV's signal booster but no still no colour.
Going from composite out on the Amiga to video (phono-type) socket on the back of the TV I couln't get a picture at all.
From composite out to a Scart adapter (which has sockets for L/R audio, S-VHS and 'Video'), plugging into the 'video' socket gave a picture when the TV was changed to one of the AV channels but was still monochrome.
I'm out of ideas now; perhaps due to its age there has been a graphics chip failure on the motherboard?
Would be a shame if I have to bin the Amiga, it's been with me for nearly twenty years. Previously it was connected to a monitor (think it was Philips), but that was sent to the recycling centre a couple of years ago during a clearout session for decorating.
If anyone reading this has had (or heard of) a similar problem, I would be grateful to hear of a solution.
Thanks. |

It could be that you can solve your issue using RGB, but I'd clean the motherboard checking for oxidation on chip legs and worn-out solder points.
Can you take a look at the motherboard to see if there are failing capacitors? Take a look at this example. I've seen an A600 giving issues on video output caused by a bunch of bulged capacitors.
Cheers,

Thanks, Oge. I'll take a look this weekend.
It was in the mid-nineties when case was last opened (to fit the hard disc), so I've been reluctant to do that so far as I remember it was rather fiddly. |
