Join Amibay and place a wanted advert you might get a 4mb trapdoor board for about £50 off one of the traders there.
That link will give you more ram, but it's only 16bit through the pcmcia port and will not be as fast as trapdoor ram which is 32bit. It's not worth £45 in my opinion not by a long shot. |

Have tried Amibay a few times, people asking for £140, £160 £230 just way out my budget really
Do you think them PCMIA RAM cards are not worth the money then? is the only person and place i have ever seen them _________________ Owned:

Noone asks for 140+ for a ram board, accelerator with better cpu maybe but you just want a ram board something like this:
http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?t=27290
Make a thread and ask, state your budget if you want see what gets offered.
This is more like what you want but it is overpriced in my opinion

As for pcmcia ram, ive never used it so cant say if its any good (it will get the job done though i would think) I just dont think its worth that price, it certainly wouldn't sell on for the same price as you paid for it. Ram boards keep their value as long as you dont pay over the top for one to begin with. |

I've never seen or used one of these PCMIA memory cards but...
I run a scsi CD drive off my A1200 PCMIA via squirrel scsi and lets just say it not only make the Amiga chug with CPU overload at times but it's also slow too even if it does the job perfectly.
If I were you I would hold on tight and wait for some 4meg or 8meg board to show up. By the sounds of it you have some form of hardrive or other which to be honest is useless on a 2meg machine at best anyway. In the mean time, the actual real disc games on ebay are not bad on price for the most common ones while your on the look out.
Or just grab a load of floppy discs and get some adf to disc action going. No harm playing games off floppy, I still do in some cases as I own the genuine real things.
JST is another game installer... might be worth checking out too with your current setup to see if it allows different requirements for the same games you want to install. _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. My Amiga does indeed have a 500mb HD and already have a ADF Transfer kit from Amigakit but just thought using WHDload would make life a bit easier.
I confess i'm naughty and make disks from the TOSEC collection but as you can imagine, i do get through some disks lol _________________ Owned:

I am in the same boat,I need a Expansion RAM Board,if you hold the right mouse button down while booting Classic WB you can get to mulitboot and thats how I boot my games for there..
I want one so badly that i am willing to swap my A600 and CD32 for one(its on Amibay).. _________________ Spanner..

Yeah, I'd recommend Amibay as well.
I paid in the $80ish range for my 8M RAM card and sold it in the $60ish range.
(I had acquired an ACA1230 by then, and there was someone there who needed a RAM card and didn't have a lot to spend..)
You can find decent deals there if you're patient and persistent..
As for a PCMCIA RAM card, yes it will work on the 1200.
I had (still have) a 2M PCMCIA RAM card before I went to the 8M route.
2M worked fairly well.
Once I disabled PRELOAD, I was able to run a lot of games without the boot menu.
There were still some that needed that menu tho, and I think a couple that still wanted more memory..
The thing to remember about a PCMCIA RAM card on the 1200 is that it will actually slow it down a bit.. Now, if you're playing games designed for the A500 speed, it's no biggie. They are still A500 speed.
But if you're running AGA games or trying to do regular Amiga stuff, it does slow down the system a bit..
(16-bit RAM on a 32-bit system...)
I just plugged mine in for playing WHDLOAD games..
So, it "can" work.
But, for not much more money, you should be able to get a real RAM card.
I'm not sure a 4M PCMCIA card would be worth it tho. Yes, it would let you run many more games, but you'd probably pay as much for that as you would for a real RAM card..
