Argh! God I find this game so frustrating. Admitedly it is addictive in some ways, but it's only the random nature of some of the variables that keep me plugging away at it. On this run I reached lvl 17 before recieving ANY kind of power up, but weirdly I had several warp failiures and about 5 "match the pairs" nonsense.

I know it's been said that auto fire upgrade isn't much use but personally I liek it a lot; the ability to hold down fire and get a full stream blast can be decisive in cutting a path through the hordes.

Intersting how, in pretty much all alien shooters, the aliens are proud enough to engage you in stunning formations, thus being predictable yet impressive. Nice to know that there is some mutual appreciation for the fine art of flying amoungst these brave souls.

Oooohh....starting to find some form. Still totally bemused by all this. Does pulling back (pressing down) do anything?

Only if you pick up the gem bomb, and then you can pull back to collect the gems. This used to work with money too, but not in this version.

I've found out that picking up skulls is not the greatest strategy.

If you watch my playguide, you'll see it helps to pick up skulls on level 1 when you already have single shot and minimum speed and bullets, then when you collect the skuls(s) they can't deplete your resources. In the video I collect the green and red skull on level 1 and then I wait to pickup the blue skull whenever I like. Sometimes I find it helps to save the last skull for when you start to lose lives and weapon upgrades so that the last skull brings you back up to the super weapon again. If you have quad shot when you collect the last skull, you'll move up to fireballs.

Is triple shit better than single or double straight shot?

Of course triple has better power then double or single shot, although it is quite slow. Triple also has the side shot effect which can help to remove enemies off to one side of the player. Double is great if you have 10+ bullet upgrades but if you have all those bullets then they would be better put to use with the Super weapon - so save up and buy that. Last week I tried to get very far simply by keeping the super weapon and powering it up with lots of bullets. It worked for a while but when I died and went back to the quad shot I didn't last very long.

I just can't seem to get grips with this game on my A1200 (WinUAE is not ideal on my netbook).

Will keep trying though, only scored less than 100K.

It can take a little while for it to click, I found.

Welcome to the league.

I think I'm done with this now. Just takes too long. An all time best that I'm happy with.

Picked up a double shot by accident. After that, game over came fast.

Great highscore. It would be almost impossible to bridge the gap to Anakirob and Seth at this point. Also, I guess you are right in what you say.

That's cool, cheers Dan. Those two are way out there. And Seth's desire to hit 100 million - it would probably take 9 or 10 hours. Shocked Good luck Seth. Very Happy

After another visual crash of the game at around 70 million yesterday I think I'm done with it. Too bad really, cause I think I could brake a 100, but game just doesn't let it.

It's alright for you guys, I'm still clinging desperately to those five points I predicted I'd be 'happy with' earlier in the round. This is my LAST attempt at it, seeing as it took all this time to get anywhere near it.

Score: 4,649,950

Note: I notice my score says Dan 18 (I didn't see the other Dan 18 score until just now).

Note: I've played this like 60 or 70 times, most times I quit before I get to the high score table if it isn't competitive.

In this play I was lucky enough to get the super weapon quite quickly. I also completed the meteor storm for the 1k cash. After level 16 or so all the bonuses and money dried up and I was reluctantly forced to hang around for the money ship in order to have enough for plasma. Got rid of the boss with plasma.

I then found the levels got a little easier for a while. After level 36 the money had dried up again, and not even memory stations were appearing, so I once again reluctantly waited for the money ship for a second time. This enabled me to get the laser weapon by level 40 or so; and by now I had x3 armour, which I kept (buying more armour to restock) until the battle of level 50. Was knocked down to fireballs during the battle. Lasted a few more levels but that was about it. Also, despite destroying the hurry up ships to get the missing rank markers, I still only managed to get to Commander (was one colour off next rank).

I voted for DG because I knew it would be a challenging round. Same with Bubble Bobble. I'm not very good at it but I thought it would make another fun match. So you can probably expect me to be another mid-table runner in the next round too (presuming we get BB).

Argh! I've totally lost patience with this game. I actually now quite enjoy playing it, I just don't have the time investment available to plough an hour into one sitting, only for the game to freeze or an early death around level 25.

Lifescool: I'm thinking BB would be cool next round, it's a true coin-op classic and would be a very different challenge...but TNT would be cool too.

Try sticking with the super weapon and use that extra cash to buy ranks. If you go to the shop with a full set of rank markers and buy 4 or 5? more ranks, you basically turn 1200 cash into a million points

So that's how it's done. Shocked Finally we get the top tips now the round is almost over. I tried that method ages ago (seeing as the tip came up at the start) but when I tried it in the shop with full rank and bought one more it didn't do anything. I also tried to consentrate on Super Weapon with lots of bullet upgrades on my 16th score, and didn't do too badly, but didn't find enough cash to get a higher score. I also notice that the super weapon is just as effective/powerful as laser, plasma or fireballs on level 26+, so one hit does the same damage no matter which of those you buy. So no need to spend two grand on the laser it seems.

Above all that, for me it depends on getting thru a meteor storm or finding a money bomb early to get the cash or else I don't do very well. If I do get 1000+ cash I usually spend it on armour and lives. I know the top scorers sometimes wait for the money ship to make sure they progress, but to be honest that feels too much like cheating to me and I hate doing it.

Anyway, I think I've has enough of this game for another round. Perhaps if I get knocked down again I may have another go but I'm more than a little jaded with it now. Silly
