|
|
Hi all
My favourite game on the Amiga for replay value is Pirates! I just love how the variables of time, nationality, starting port combined with random events and wars, alliances, treasure, women and no linear plot combine to give you countless possibilities. The Amiga version has real charm too and I learned more and more about the geography of the Caribbean and ship types with each game, which has recently helped me in pub quizzes!
What games would you good people recommend as similar in terms of open-endedness and replayability? |

| Almost every sports game is good in terms of open-endedness and replayability. That's the reason, why I still like the genre and why it's my favourite one since I bought a C64. It also helps, if there's an editor in the game like in Lotus 3. Besides those, I really like to replay The Settlers(though it's not really open-ended). |

Dungeon Master
Eye of the Beholder
Black Crypt
Crystal Dragon
Hired Guns
Captive
and more...
Based on the idea of Rougelike adventuring but now with a full graphical 3D view and played all in real time. _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. Premier Manager and Pinball Dreams / Fantasie's, etc spring to mind.
Pity there are so few new games with high score tables on them - beating a high score always made a game open ended for me. _________________ Fave Amiga Games:

As previously mentioned, both Dungeon Master and Captive do lend themselves to infinite wanderings. In Dungeon Master I once took 2 champions down to Lord Chaos and then didn't want the adventure to end....so I made my way back to the hall of champions and then went exploring around the Dungeon again, eventually making "camp" in level 8 (the massive room) and just wasting ghosts and the like. nipping up and down a floor to get a varied diet!
And Captive is cool because you can just carry on if you want....the Universe being your only limitations.
Talking about Universes, Frontier (Elite II) was excellent for that too.... |

High Score's Rule.
Super Hang-on
Lotus 2
ATR: All Terrain Racing
Ikari Warriors
4 examples off the top of my head that offer timeless fun. Always keep a notebook handy so you can keep updated with your personal best scores. Makes it more fun at a later date and a reason to go back, all from a piece of paper. _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. Yes totally! Even if you've done the missions, it's fun exploring and blowing stuff up. I remember finding the 'sun goddess' (I LOL'd at: the sun goddess says: hello bigboy) on that little island with the two jealous enemy dudes swimming about, hahaha!
Moonstone isn't open ended but it has a lot of replay factor as it's just fun (if you can avoid the annoying bugs and glitches). |

Moonstone is one of those games. Is rather short, but from time to time I like to finish it.
Same thing with two polish games: Franko, Doman. Nostalgia factor |

You can keep playing Civilization after the ending date, but it feels kind of hollow after the game has declared you a winner or a loser.
Elite isn't bad, but for some reason, it doesn't feel as open as the C64 version to me.
I would say Frontier, but I never found it much fun to actually play and it always ended up crashing on me. |

I read that there are 13 million pyramids on one of the
planets--searching all of these might be considered
quite an adventure... _________________ Who is John Galt?
