Street Fighter anyday!
Street Fighter II on the SNES was quality, although Super Street Fighter II Turbo on the PC was better.
As Linesmachine said IK+ is THE best (C64 version for me) along with International Karate and Way of The Exploding Fist (all C64).
Never really liked MK, although I have MK & MK2 boxed for the Amiga - I might just have a little spin. |

MK was always a little bit too pubertal for me(maybe I was already too old for all that pseudo-blood and head chopping). SF2 on the SNES was fun, but it all stopped, when one of my friends bought a NeoGeo plus Art of Fighting and Samurai Showdown.
As some others here mentioned, on the Amiga IK+ is better than MK and SF2 together. They were not very playable with a 1-button joystick. |

| Everyone's talking as though Mortal Kombat is a 1-button game, aren't the two Mortal Kombat games on Amiga 2-buttons? |

Mortal Kombat is the best 1 button fighting game port I've ever played. _________________

Yes they are, and that doesn't change much eh? 'Cause you still need more buttons... |

Seriously though, I own Mortal Kombat on seven different machines & this is still the preferred way I like to play.

Every little helps, splitting up all the moves 50/50 over two buttons eases up the complexity by quite a bit, and even a 6 button game can be done decently with 2-buttons and some optimisation, as a whole ton of Neo Geo Pocket fighting games prove.
Unfortunately I was playing some of Mortal Kombat the other day, and it seems as though its not actually optimised for 2-buttons anyway, it seems as though Probe made the game for 1-button, but then doubled up some of the moves for the second button, unchanging the 1st button.
I think that mapping the two punch buttons to button 1, and the two kick buttons to button 2 + block being hold both buttons simultaneously would've led to a control system only slight more complex than the original. |

Totally impossible to test it, but I would totally fancy my chances against any of you using six buttons, against my one button Zipstickness! _________________

Haha! Give it some love this weekend.
Windowlene glass cleaner spray will bring it up, a drop on a rag or kitchen roll.

It's been well worked any way. Mine only looks clean as I use a number of sticks and pads from this Zip to Megadrive, Competition Pro, Tecnoplus, Speed King and even an Atari 2600 stick. Depends on what games I play to what I use. Look at the bobbles in the plastic of the ball top on my stick... still looks new-ish were yours is shiny. Yours understandably has seen a lot of action and if it's the only one your using then fair one. Camera flash shows up everything and always makes things look worse than it really looks in your hands. _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. I do have another one & that is like yours, still has a decent textured ball. I don't like it as much though. I have gotten used to the slackness in the stick over the years as it has happened. The other one just feels so stiff in comparison.
I will give it a good clean this weekend & post a picture up to try & alleviate the guilt & shame you have just caused me. _________________

I totally agree with you there. If it doesn't feel right you don't play right. I like a nice free moving Zip with little effort required to move it. Has a more arcade machine feel about it. _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. Street Fighter II is better than Mortal Kombat! Saying that, Mortal Kombat did introduce finishing moves and photo- realistic graphics.
Street Fighter II is just a perfect fighting game however, it defines its genre and it was a sensation. It also contains some of the most memorable music in video game history.
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition is also a better game than the Mortal Kombat reboot. It's a pretty close thing though. I'd say though that the new Mortal Kombat is possibly the second best fighting game ever released (SSFIV is still my #1!).
On the Amiga though, things are very different, and Mortal Kombat is much better than Street Fighter II! It's actually a superb port of the Mega Drive version which itself was a great port from the arcade. Street Fighter II on the other hand looks, sounds and plays like an Atari ST game (although it does feature 32 colour graphics). |

Yes, no problem with one button controller for fighting games for me. Thats the way how games were played back in the day on speccy and other machines. |
