|
|
Hi!
Would this be good monitor for Amiga 1200 with standard video output connections?
http://www.viewsoniceurope.com/uk/products/archive/ve920m.htm
Specs:
- Sync H/V separate (TTL)
- Analogue RGB analogue (0.7 Vp-p, 75 ohm)
- Frequency Fh: 30 ~ 82kHz, Fv: 50 ~ 85Hz
I know that Amiga screen modes need 75 kHz HSync. Is 30 - 82kHz right frequence then?
Would be glad if you can help me! |

| If you want to be able to use Amiga screens (as opposed to VGA) you must have a monitor that will sync down to 15.7 KHz. With that in mind, this monitor doesn't look it will work at all. |

This makes me think of something. I've been half-heartedly looking for an older Dell LCD monitor that has composite and S-video inputs. I ran into some of these in a 20" size a few years back, and vowed that I would someday buy one to use on my 8-bit Commodores. I think it was the 2007fp.
Anyway, if they have composite and S-video, don't they have to sync down to 15KHz? And the next logical jump is to wonder whether you could feed a 15KHz signal to the VGA connector, using the proper silver box adapter? Anyone know if this works? |

In a word, no. The silver adapter (23 pin to 15 pin) does nothing but change the pin output. VGA needs at least 31KHz.
However, if my memory is correct, the 1200 and 4000 can do this. I used to run a 1942 on my A1200 (with the chrome adapter) and it used both modes OK. Hope this helps.... |

Yes..

Maybe, but it's not a given.
Some do and some don't....
Unfortunately, it's just hit and miss..

Any pre-digital TV is 15khz.
Any TV that has RCA video inputs supports 15khz.
The problem is that just because a TV supports 15khz and has a VGA input, doesn't mean that the VGA input supports 15khz.
That used to be totally uncommon...
It actually seems that some of the more recent TVs that support VGA in also support 15khz on VGA, but it's still very hit/miss...

Price wise Just use a old tv with the rca connections or a scart/rca adapter. You can usually pick up a decent old tv for just a few quid, I see your in sittingbourne, if you are on facebook look up groups like "sittingbourne treasure chest" where people buy and sell things.
I'm using a 32" Widescreen CTR telly on my amiga 1200 using the rca inputs and the picture is pretty sharp _________________ Owned:

Yeah, although some of the models that people have gotten to work haven't listed that they go down the 15khz...
It's really annoying..

There are a few threads on EAB and Amiga.org where people list some TVs/Monitors that work...
You can search for those..
(Don't have the links here, sorry)
I just gave in and bought a GBS-8200 and made a cable so I can use most any monitor with VGA...

| In the UK you all have SCART as an option too. From what I have read, that is pretty compatible with many, if not most, new TVs. I think this offers better quality displays (most surely better than composite!) than other TV options |

I hooked up my A500 with an RGB Scart to a Sony Bravia KDL-40V5500 LCD TV with no problems at all.
The scart cable I used is the same I used some 20 years ago. _________________ RIP mom (1953-2008) |
