My Board only has a jumper for master/slave. ?

Master/Slave? That is a jumper for an IDE/Compact Flash drive, and not RAM cards....
Or do you have some combo RAM card that also does IDE (Not familiar with any)???

SCSI doesn't have Master/Slave.
It uses SCSI IDs...

Quirky...

Hey, weird thought..
Is it possible that Commodore shipped a few Kickstart 3.0's with a more upgraded version of card.resource embedded???
So, maybe late in the 3.0 run, it had "some" of the 3.1 libraries (or preliminary versions)???

I wouldn't think so, but it might explain why some people were seeing that behavior on 3.0 ROMs..

If someone has a machine that is actively doing that, they could pull the card.resource version (using sysinfo) to see....

You had the CD that wouldn't work?
I wonder if that was a driver issue per se...

Here's what the discussion was when they found it in 3.1....
There was a "possiblity" of a conflict if PCMCIA used this one location that could be overwritten by the FAST RAM cards.

However, people were testing and PCMCIA was enabled in 3.0, but not in 3.1.
There were mostly testing PCMCIA CF readers I believe...
(This is in that 2nd EAB thread I linked earlier)

So they id'd the "feature" in 3.1 where it was disabled, but they couldn't see any actual conflicts as the PCMCIA devices in question didn't use that memory space.

But Commodore disabled it in 3.1 because it "might" conflict.

I wonder if your PCMCIA CDROM device was a device where it actually conflicted?

So, the PCMCIA was still "enabled," but your device wouldn't work because of the overlap...

Just thinking out loud here..

It is the card, NOT the OS that cripples the PCMCIA port..

It's actually a bit of both.
A card that uses over 4M of the memory space usually used for 68000 RAM expansions will have PCMCIA disabled with Kickstart 3.1.
It was something Commodore added in to avoid possible overlapping memory issues.

The code to disable the PCMCIA with over 4M FAST RAM is not there in Kickstart 3.0.

That being said, almost all accelerators with RAM are safe as they don't use that memory space.

However, there are a few (very few) 030 cards with 8M that use the 68000 available memory space.
Those cards, combined with Kickstart 3.1 will have PCMCIA disabled.

I had to go back and read some old (and I mean old) notes on this, and you're right. That is the way it works.
