Hi,
I have an Amiga 1200 with 6mb RAM, workbench 3.0 and 120MB HDD, and a 8x CD-ROM. Ive recently found out that most of my games are installable but for some reason dont work. Ive found that WHDLOAD is what i need in order to install them. I downloaded the installer for fight of the amazon Queen and it says in need WHDLOAD.
So far ive download WHDLOAD and transfered it to my amiga via PC from a blank CD.
Ive extracted WHDLOAD with LHA and Ive got a folder that contains patcher, RAWDIC and DIC but ive got no idea how to install it. Can someone please help me install this so i can install my old games? A step by step guide would be usefull as my knowledge of this sort of thing is not up to scratch. many thanks..

For sucessful using of WHDLoad installed games, you basically need 3 things:
1) WHDLoad tool file in your C: drawer
2) WHD installer for given game
3) corresponding game to install with that installer
Demo version of WHDLoad executable can be downloaded from www.whdload.de. There are also instruction for buying a registered version, I recommend that.
You can download installers for games from that site as well, but they support original games only, not any cracks. So you need original floppies.
Fortunatelly, if you do not have originals, you can download pre-installed WHDLoad games from http://www.whdownload.com/ for example.
Enjoy. _________________

| Hmm FOTAQ runs from a hard drive without WHDLoad just fine using it's own installer. |

Thanks for the replies guys! Will look into the links and info and let you know how I get on.
With FOTAQ I did install the game as it states on the information card that is supplied in the box. It says to copy all files from the disk onto the HDD. I did this for all 11 disks and it didn't even load up. A message came up when I clicked on the game icon saying this files is not exacutable. Any ideas on that?
Thanks. |

| open a shell/cli window and navigate to the directory the game is in and type "execute filename" if its a script it will load. |

I've download WHDLOAD, the WHDLoad_usr.lha file.
I placed it on a CD, transferred it to my Amiga. Went into shell and typed
Work: LHA X "WHDLOAD" RAM:
It then extracts the files. These are WHDLOAD. Info, WHDLOAD/C/DIC, WHDLOAD/C/patcher and WHDLOAD/C/rawdic
It then says five files extracted, 1 file failed.
When I go into RAM Disk it shows WHdload folder with a C drawer and in there is DIC patcher and rawdic.
I've copied these 3 files to c drawer in workbench but it's not had any effect. Any ideas? |

With FOTAQ, once I've copied all the files onto my HDD into a drawer, when I double click on the icon a message comes up saying "unable to open your tool 'queen' "
I did mention in in my last thread that a message came up saying it wasn't executable, but that was not the message, my bad. |

Have you just drag and dropped these files yourself as you are not making this clear. There is a proper installer program on one of the disks which will do it all for you if i remember correctly, I can clearly remember playing and completing this game off hard drive years ago before whdload etc. |
