|
|
i recently purchased an Amiga 1200 from ebay and an aftermarket Compact Flash 4gb Hard drive from Amigakit.com
The problem is that the computer didnt come with any Workbench Amiga OS disks so i am unable to install the CF hard drive since i have nothing to install to it
is it possible to mount the CF disk using WinUAE and install Workbench using an Image from the internet?
thanks |

Yep, I think that's the way most people do that...
You just have to have a CF reader (my printer has one, so I used that).
You will need to launch WinUAE as Administrator and possibly have to wipe the CF card of all partitions first.
(Not sure if Amigakit has already done that, they probably have.)

p.s. If you're going to do that, you might want to just set up a Classic WB setup (still asks for the install disks, so the same way). I did that.
I setup a ClassicWB hdf file. Then I formatted and mounted the CF card and copied everything from my ClassicWB partition to the CF.
If you haven't checked out Classic WB yet: http://classicwb.abime.net
I think I used the FULL install. |

How are your foreign language skills?

This isn't bad, from what I can tell...
At least it gets you the concept..
Basically, this guy already has Classic WB setup in WinUAE.
He preps (wipes) the CF card in Windows, then loads WinUAE and preps (formats, etc) the CF card in WinUAE.
(The part on MaxTransfer and hitting ENTER (notice the setting didn't stick the first time he shows it) is important).
Now, it's possible that the CF card from Amigakit is already formatted and has the MaxTransfer set properly, I'm not sure...
Then he shows that he adds CF card in WinUAE to his ClassicWB setup and boots into that.
(Note: The partition names can't be the same, the Amiga doesn't like that. ClassicWB uses System, so don't name the CF Card partition System. He uses Sistema and then renames it to Workbench (not sure why he bothered to rename it tho...)
Then he uses DOpus to copy everything to the CF card.
That's basically it...

PAL high/low res does not fill the whole of the screen, no commercial games did either that used these standard screen modes. Not even an Atari ST fills the whole screen.
That's why all the standard commodore/phillips monitors allow you to stretch the picture horizontal & vertical if you wanted the picture to fit better.
You might be able to set your TV to 14:9 ratio if it allows this to make your picture a little bigger, maybe a couple of options for picture shift but that's all most standard TV's will do. _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. Plus an A500+ Yum. |

That just doubles up the resolution frequency and then you would use the monitor to adjust the picture to make it fit better much like the classic monitors. Same thing has to be done with a PC when setting up different screen modes for the first time... _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. It can depend on the FlickerFixer too..
I have the el-cheapo GBS-8200 and a custom cable, and that device itself let's you tweak the screen settings a bit.
That, combined with my monitors settings let me center it fairly well...
I'm not sure about the Indivisions, but I would think they would have similar features..

| My indivision 1 almost fills the screen entirely, im not sure how much of that is down to the monitor auto adjusting it though. |
