Why on earth bring Steve Jobs into this? This is about Jack passing away.
A hard task master, took no prisoners in business and did things his way. No way to sugar coat the fact he wasn't a nice man 'in business'. But like has been said, played a very important part in computing history.
Thoughts to his family at this time. RIP. _________________ www.retroasylum.com

I saw that over the Twitter, the "Commodore 64" trending topic was there! Such sad news! _________________

Jack wasn't liked in the industry because he gave the gift of fire to the masses. Then he kept making it cheaper! Little wonder no one from IBM or Apple liked him (or M$, or???).
The man did more than anyone else for home computing and educational computing. _________________ ____________________________________

Cap duly doffed to the late Mr. Tramiel.
I'm sure he wouldn't be offended to be considered a mensch and a schmuck in equal measure - it was the secret of his success.
I must confess to a bit of mental air-punching when I read the section in "...On The Edge" when he turned down Jobs and Wozniak's machine because they were charging too much for it. Some things never change...
I think he was the perfect person to be in charge of CBM when he was, but I'm also convinced he'd have been out of his depth in the Amiga years (even if I also believe he probably wouldn't have been any worse than those who replaced him - none of whom fully grasped just how much of a technological lead they had their hands on in 1985).
Nevertheless, the world of home computing would be a lot lesser were it not for his tenacity. |
