I knew that, but it makes no difference. Very Happy
(I guessed the 'as well' in my post would be enough to explain, but maybe my english teacher wasn't as good as we all thought back then Sad )

Your english is fine akabei.

And it is even more true of R-Type II than Dyna Blaster. At least in Dyna you have a hope of survival. R-Type II is harder than Project X, IMO. Tough like X-Out was - oh no - don't remind me of X-Out. Sad

Yes, your English is fine. Just a misunderstanding & I know what you mean now. R-type is really tough. All about the power-ups too. I am pretty horrible at it too it seems.

Is blowing up the exit door in Dyna Blaster considered milking?
Cause after you blow the door, monsters come out which by blowing them up you get some big scores. It is quite risky tho', cause it might just let the pigs out which are extremely fast and going directly to get you therefore hard to kill without loosing life.

I was thinking the same thing. That's how I got my score double over 3HM score by virtually the same point. I only triggered the exit door 4 times on that play thru, 1st time I died before killing anything (so that was well done!), 2nd time I killed the first batch of aliens (which seem to split after the initial few seconds), and 3rd time I got some red dudes who killed me. 4th time I tried it on that playthru was near the end, I get a bunch of red dudes. Game over.

I'd suggest if you try this tactic you are a risking a lot - a life PLUS the walkthu bombs and walls and the remote trigger (bomb numbers and extentions stay the same), so on my next playthu I don't think I'll be using that method deliberately. However, my 2nd exit door blast was a mistake, so it does happen from time to time.

3HM - I smiled at the faded screen grab you posted. Smile I did the same thing, but stupidly decided NOT to save the screenshot thinking a better opportunity would come up later, like on a high score table... It didn't. Shocked

edit: I'll check out the suggestion that it is in the corner of the main screen. I was playing it with the Null Filter and 'automatic scaling' switched on so the game plays in full screen.

R-type 2: Tips

I found this:

Quote:
Each level has a number of enemies, obstacles and terrains to overcome, with a huge boss encounter at the end of each stage. As you proceed, you will pick up power-ups (called ‘Force’) which act as temporary enhancements to your ship. These last indefinitely so long as you don’t manually detach them or lose a life. As you collect more power ups, the existing attachment becomes more and more powerful until you are firing lasers the size of a house at the approaching enemy. Detaching the power ups has advantages and disadvantages - you can fire them for devastating damage and leave yourself open for attack until it returns, or you can use it as a shield and run into enemies with it equipped.

R-Type II is merciless in regards to difficultly, and you will find a relentless hoard of enemies at almost all times. Not only are enemies directly attacking you, but also turrets, projectiles and even the walls are out to get you. There is no life meter; you have to make it to a checkpoint without taking ANY hits in order to progress. The bosses range in difficulty, but can be dispatched without too much effort. The real problem is if you enter a boss fight without any power-ups, which can be a struggle (with power-ups, the first boss can be defeated before his door closes within around 10 seconds).

No problem - milking is allowed. Only leeching is forbidden. Laughing

Score: 320, 600

Got to 4-6? Somewhere around there. Yes, after playing this for an hour or so I got very bored and started to think about doing the exit gate bonus. I tried it x4 times during the game, first time: I got 50,000 bonus for completing it, second time I got maybe 30,000 (cant remember), third time I got 20,000, and fourth time (as you can see above) I failed to get anything. Maybe the bonus is random? It's sure HARD! I wouldn't even consider it if I didn't have x3 or x4 bombs.

btw, I see what you mean, the hi-score is in the top right corner of the game area. So if you miss the final screen grab just start from level 1 and grab it there. The WHDLoad doesn't save the 'hi' score if you quit.

Exactly. It's a very risky tactic as you can easily lose lives and it can't be done infinitely. So feel free to try it. It will probably make the difference between anybody that completes the game.

And good to see you back john. Smile

Another feeble attempt at R-type. It is brutal, but I almost like it... almost. Any tips for the first boss would be good.

It's not impossible like X-Out but I get the feeling there's only one way of getting through and you need to memorise all the tactics. If I make it to level 3 I'll be very happy (and surprised).

That's all you got??

I am on 1-5 and have 230,720. Some dudes face appeared twice (on different levels) earning me 100,000 points or so each time I collected it!
No idea why he appeared.

The reason for posting is that I collected an icon I didn't recognise and now my bombs aren't exploding! Are they in some sort of proximity mode or is there a key to set them off? Help!!

Edit: Sorry, just found it. Spacebar detonates 1 at a time, starting with first one laid.

Regards,
Lonewolf10
