Im still beavering away at CE. Still havent managed more than 20,000 points yet though! I don't think that CE will be my strongest game in this compo but hopefully I'll manage a respectable 45,000+ Smile

I'll post a screenie soon.

Oh, who am I kidding? I said before I can never quit playing this game so close to the end, and it's still true:

My apologies, Mr. K... 63,610.

As to the guy wishing for 45k+, if I remember right, the first time I went all the way through, without nitpicking for points, I ended around 49k. So, even if you just want to play through the game without all the mad scientist style map making and note taking, your score will still be quite respectable.

Also, I've got to say I'm very impressed with the competition so far, as far as everyone "playing fairly." In particular, it would be quite easy to "score snipe," I.e. I could have just let the K think he had the lead, then post a 61k score an hour before time was up. This would be terribly cheap, however, and it's cool to see that not happening. Whoever wins, I want them to win because they played the best game of CE (or whatever game) ever, not because they spent the whole competition looking like a bunny then revealed their chainsaw and pointy teeth before anyone could respond.

I've gotten so addicted to this game at this point that I'm almost hoping my score gets beat again, just so I can have another go through.

I'm just sad that not all the characters are equally playable if you want a 60k+ score... I'd much rather have a go with the preacher, but he doesn't have a giant stick of dynamite, so he gets to sit out. Sad

I can't stay here until the end of the compo so I really don't care about winning. I've already won enough: I'm a hell of a CE player by now Laughing , I have some new ideas and a lot of motivation for improving the CE section of my website and I have a lot of fun here (..but I repeat myself), so winning would be nice but I can't have it all, I guess. However I'll hold the position until April 28 tryin to cope with starvingwriters scores.
BTW I wonder if somebody else had ever pushed the score this far in CE.

...good one! I feel exactly like that. Guess why I've a pic of Baron Fortesque as my avatar Laughing

Well, if you think that 65k is enough... Laughing

Well got no chance of catching you guys slugging it out for first place. But, this compo has really inspired me to play Chaos Engines again.

Loved the game when it came out, but haven't really played it since -emukation was choppy in the early versions of WinAUE that I used.

I managed to get 29,850 and got to world 3-2 which is the best I've managed. My perosonal aim is to finish the game before the end of the compo.

Thanks guys.

My first score was from playing 2 player and killing him off, my new score is from playing in one player mode and it's first time I've completed Chaos Engine properly!

Wahooo!

My score this time is EXACTLY 56000!

Wahoo!

what image hosts you guys using?

...aah...no need for excuses, writer. Cool look, what a strange score...

...a perfect 64k. Maybe not THE perfect score, but that's what I got. Very Happy

Back to the drawing board, I guess. Laughing Actually, I've been AT the drawing board, and I think I know where I can squeeze out a few more points, but Finals Week is coming up so I haven't been able to dedicate the time to go through again in the last few days.

Save about 10 lives, then place your character in front of the engine and shoot shoot shoot...that's what I usually do after another-2-hours-tour through the game. BTW Defeating the engine will add 2k to your score.

The first few times I went in to beat it, I panicked and tried to dodge everything. Don't - dodge the bombs and the missles (and the laser, when it's in its second form) and just let the other stuff (the scatter shot) hit you... it doesn't do that much damage.

Also, with Mercenary and Thug, you can position yourself in the corner in such away that nothing really hits you, and you can still hit the engine.

Of course, the drawback is that you can't hit anything else... I get so frustrated by the scatter shot![/i]

You should all be warned I'm close to breaking the 10,000 point barrier... I'll post a screenshot when that happens. Laughing

I hate those bloody swirly sandstorm enemies on world 2. They suck most of my lives out!
