Am I right in think theres something like 100 time more OCS/ECS amiga games than there are AGA?

so does that make a A500/500+/600 a better gaming machine than the A1200? or can you get most OCS etc games to work on a A1200?

I would say the A1200 is better. You can get most of the OCS/ECS games workin on an A1200, although some may require 1.3 bootdisks etc.

I agree. But I don't know all that much about A1200. I say A500 because it was during its life/reign that so many games came out, and because programmers made games that pushed it to its limits.

A1200 with WHDLoad - or an A500. Both excellent.

A1200, with 030 card, about 8Mb of RAM and a hard disk.

Install all your games with WHDLoad.. you'll find a lot of them will work even if they didn't before the were WHDLoaded.

Almost instant loading, you can quit and load another one easily, and it runs on the real hardware. Perfect Amiga games machine.

Perfect Amiga games machine.

And then have A500 with kickstart 1.3 & memory expansion if there still are games you want to play - although messing with 3.5" disks is pain after WHDLoad heaven.

@Martin_Lee: Relokick doesn't solve all compatibility problems, but it's worth trying if there is no other way to run the game.

Gotta be the trusty A500 - with 1 meg upgrade of course

The A600 had too many problems with compatability with many older games not working, thats why I'm sticking with the A500

Technically the 1200 is better for gaming as it is more powerful, has better gfx resolutions etc..

The 500 was better supported and was around longer (before commodore went wlyy-up!) hence why there are more games and they are better because publishers had longer to develop the machine and Commodore supplied technical and harware details. With the 1200 the AGA chipset was a mystery and all its features were not easily found etc.. so developers wouldn't know to add this feature or that etc..

thanks for the response guys

so basicly if you gonna use original disks an OCS (500) machine is best
but if you gonna download stuff then an AGA (1200) machine is great

and the ECS machines? 500+ 600? not that useful?

I can´t tell, which one is the best, but I know which is the worst. CDTV definetely.

The CDTV wasn't made to be a games machine, is was meant to be a multimedia entertainment system.. It failed for 2 simple reasons!

1). It was far too expensive
2). Far too ahead of its time.. If it had come out 1yr later, was priced aggressively and the OS was Kick2+ it would have stood a better chance of success!!

The worst (gaming) Amiga amiga would surely be the 500+.. Released without telling anybody and so many old 1.2/1.3 games simply didn't work!!

Yeah tell me about it, i must have lost count how many games i had to take back to the shops because they wouldn't load, it was only a couple of years ago i discovered relokick Rolling Eyes , the main game that sticks out in my mind is striker, i returned it about ten times and the shopkeeper just wouldn't let me exchange it, he just kept giving me new copies Evil or Very Mad , it ended up becoming a nice shiny new blank disk in the end Twisted Evil , and besides that i played it a few months ago and it sucks Laughing

edit: iirc it even said 500+ compatible on the cover, so much for rage's quality control Rolling Eyes
