I remember seeing this on the telly some 15 years ago
as recorded on Austin City Limits 1978. I think the first part
of the video has been shorted. Somehow this looks different than my
recollection--when I saw it on TV, it seems to have been more
well-lit--perhaps this video is from another camera.
Anyway, after seeing Wait's name a few times, I was curious
& looked it up & found it--not sure if there's another video
of this performance.

Chuckles... I now officially love you!
Ha! Well I downloaded the version (apparently an audio-only
version, and it is/was over 11 minutes--this video is only around
5 minutes. I think the only place you could get the full video
might be either PBS, or BBC (if BBC carried/carries Austin City
Limits).
So, what can we say? That this Waits fellow has a load of talent--
or what? _________________ Who is John Galt?
Better yet--who cares!

Waits is a genius! I only discovered him last year yet I now own everything he has ever done!
I like that song may I recommend the albums, Small Change, Foreign Affairs and my favourite album Blue Valentine. _________________ Never trust a man with a mustache...

Hard to pin down Waits' favorite influences, as they range
from Charles Bukowski to trumpeter Louis Armstrong (Wiki). I
can see some of his singing style in:
Blind Willie Johnson--

though Johnson seemed to have a more a regular cadence (blues)
and here is, what Rob Hubbard made of it. In my opinion, the best sid-tune ever. It's the only 8bit tune, entering my mp3 collection on my mobile phone.
don't ask why i'm listening to this... i just am. and it sounds great.
(i suspect it's because the background wave tune sounds a bit like old Amiga MODs... though no-one will ever come close to Depeche Mode in that, especially their brillianty "Wrong" tune...) _________________ As mentalidades definem-se pelas suas finalidades
