Of course it wouldn't be a SID player.

It would be the amiga equivalent for Amiga music.

I enjoy playing lemon64's sidplay from my work browser, and it'd be cool to do the same with lemonamiga.com. (It'd be cool to have an online PSF player too!)

Yes, but I'm having a big problems deciding which player to use.

Here are some of the options I've been thinking of for playing game MODs on the game details pages:

Flash MP3 Player
http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Flash_MP3_Player

Advantages
- Loads fast
- Works on all browsers
- Quite feature rich and stable

Disadvantages
- Bandwidth; MP3 files are much larger than MODs
- Poor sound quality as the bitrate has to be quite low
- It's quite some work for me converting all mods to MP3

ModPlug
http://www.modplug.com/

Advantages
- Plays MODs very well
- Support for compressed MODs

Disadvantages
- Doesn't work with Internet Explorer
- Very limited when it comes to features
- No support for exotic MOD formats

MOD Player in Flash
http://8bitboy.popforge.de/

Advantages
- Loads fast
- Works on all browsers
- Plays MODs without need of conversion to MP3

Disadvantages
- Very early and buggy version
- No support for exotic MOD formats
- Author is very busy

I have been in contact with the author cause I think that with a bit of more work this would be the ultimate player for LA. He was happy to customize it for the site, but unfortunately he is busy with a lot of other projects at the moment.

Java MOD player
https://jmod.dev.java.net/

Advantages
- Plays a wide range of MOD formats
- Support for zipped MODs

Disadvantages
- Java is slow, atleast for starting up
- I can't get it to work Sad

I will contact the author at some point and ask for advice.

I'd like to know what you guys think... which player type should I go for?
Any suggestions for other players?

That's the main reason I'd stay away from MP3 files. IMHO its better to use the MOD files directly, and then let each user's PC emulate the sound.

And:

Based upon what details you provided, I would go with options 2 and 3 (let the user decide which one he wants to use). That way if one doesn't work for the user's browser/setup, maybe the other program will.

Thanks. Smile

Very little feedback on this topic though... so I'm not sure if it's worth the job to add something like this. Confused

To be honest, I am not using the music option. I think it's a nice addition nonetheless but I just don't have use for it, since I always already listen to music, when browsing the internet.

I don't use it either, but this is slightly different... the idea is to have a playlist on each game pages... kinda like watching screenshots, but for music instead. Smile

Even me don't use the player on Lemonamiga. It is impossible at work and at home I have often turned my A1200 on just next to this PC and listen to my mods collection through Eagleplayer while browsing net, writing pages etc.

Kim: Hm... that's a neat Idea, tho! Having at least the Title Theme and some tunes of the stages, would be nice. If it's easy playable with fast buffertimes, etc.

It is not so easy. There are hundreds of custom music formats and especially for games! *.mod is the Amiga most common format, but not many games had the tunes in this. And the customs routines are difficult to emulate/play.

I think the best way would be if the author of 8Bitboy (the mod flash player) gets more time on his hands. He said that he could also add support for streaming mp3. Then the game music in *.mod format could be played as well as the more exotic formats converted to mp3. Smile

Btw, there are about 750 ripped game tunes in *.mod format here. Smile

Modplay in Flash seems to be the shit, yet you might want to check in here :

Code:
C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\

Btw, I think it would be awesome to add a bunch of musics to the list. Like, the end tune from Another world, which is one of the most beautiful tracks ever done on Amiga, imo.
Also the intro tunes from both Monkey island Very Happy

Hi all,

i am one of the authors of the 8bitboy, an Amiga ModPlayer in Flash. I rewrote the engine recently from the scratch and would like to get your opinion on the new version. We have also already written a XM-Parser, but the audio output will take some time (cause we are busy again with commercial projects).

The good thing besides: 8bitboy is now open source, so everyone is invited to contribute.

Even you are not a programmer, you can help us. If you find ModFiles that does not playback as expected, please send them to us. We are ambitous to get all ModFiles to work. It seems to be pretty stable for now.

@Kim: I haven't seen you a long time in Skype. If you are still interested, please contact me.
