Hey I'd thought it would be interesting to get a feel for how internationally renowned the Amiga is.
Why not list the countries that you've either used an Amiga in, or have heard of Amigas being popular in?
I'm in Australia where the Amiga was immensly popular, but never as popular as the C64 was in it's day.
I have recently come back from China where the Amiga never took off. There's no Chinese character set for the Amiga though it's lack of presence in China would have been for economic reasons at the time. _________________ www.brandempire.com.au |

I'd say that the Amiga was the most popular 16 bits computer in Spain. Funnily enough, its older brother, the C64, was the least popular 8 bits machine in my country. _________________ Let's face the obvious: yesterday we were nerds, today we're the cognitive elite. Let's conquer. |

Amigas were literally everywhere here in the UK. Most of my friends had an Amiga, and we were like a big group really. Used to use them, or talk about them, nearly all the time!
C64's were popular too, as were Spectrums. I had a C64. |

Yeah, the Amiga was wellspread in Sweden as well. I think 5 of 6 kids on my street when growing up had one. And at least 6 guys in my high school class had one.
Btw. I know the Amiga (or any Commodore system for that matter) weren't that popular in the US. Which 16 bit platform was the biggest on the other side of the pond? PC? Or were they all console kiddies?
EDIT: Just changed were to weren't, which was what I mean and quite changed the semantics.

I think the Amiga was popular in its early life in the states, but all the best, later software came from, UK/Europe.

Oceania? Where the hell is Oceania? Only place I've ever heard of it is in '1984' _________________ 'So, you want to be a pirate? Well you've picked the right place to start.

Haven't seen 1984. Oceania is the area of Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. _________________ www.brandempire.com.au |

You might want to read it too. The book kills any movie. _________________

Yeah, good book, it's all about a nightmare future where the British Civil Service is kept under constant surveillance in a policed state.... and everyone else in the country is pretty much left alone to enjoy themselves. God save us!

When I was at school, I remember that being 'Australasia'. 20 odd years ago that, mind. _________________ 'So, you want to be a pirate? Well you've picked the right place to start.

| Are Americans not into Retro gaming (Too bust playing Quake VI/Unreal Tourny 2010), was the Amiga never a big hit in the states, or do we just have no readers from across the pond? |

C64 and Amiga were definitely two of the most common home computers during late 80's and early 90's. It was the same in Turkey and that's why I switched from C64 to Amiga (well, easy access to pirated software was another criteria ) |

Dude, retro is so OUT. It's so 80's.
Seriously, I think you are right. I'm in the U.S. now, and whenever I check Amiga/CD32 on eBay it's all PAL system from UK. A few NTSC from Canada and rarely in the U.S. unless it's a Toaster system. |

And bloody immensly expensive! Plus the additional factor of high interest rates at the time added to the Amiga's expence.
Usually rich kids or those that sold their C64 early had an Amiga.
Man! I wanted an Amiga so bad after seing Defender of the Crown, Super Cars and Back to the Future 2 and Battle Chess.
Myers (in Adelaide) used to always have a Amiga 500 displayed with a demo involving James D. Sach' s picture of the Porsche 911 changing colours. _________________ What now? I don't own an Amiga any more. Back to the 128D for me. |
