Wings of fury save function???

Hey all. I have a discusion with a friend of mine. In "wings of fury" there is a load function (Welcome back from R&R) but I cant find a way to save the game. I have made the bet that there is a save funtion since there is a load function but my friend holds on to that you cant save the game. Hope someone in here can settle the bet. Hopefuly to my benefit

You can save a game in progress whenever your Hellcat is on the carrier.
When you are ready to save the game, press Control-G. Enter a name for the
game you wish saved and press return. You will then be returned automati-
cally to the game you were just playing. To load a saved game, select "Return
from R & R" on the rank selection screen or press Control-L from within the
game. On the Load Game menu screen use the joystick to highlight the game
you wish to play and press return.
