| Finally finished it today! Just want to say this has been a really good thread for those that will play this in the future. I'm actually impressed at the number of the people who jumped into the action, which is a testament to the legend of the Bard's Tale on the Commodore. As I originally said at the beginning that I completed this some 20 years ago on the ole 64 and thought it would be intriguing to do it again this time on a Amiga 500. Glad I did so let's move forward to part 2. Haywire |

Congrats!
I really enjoyed this thread, too.
At the prompting of some others, I tried out the Apple ][gs version of this game. There's a massive improvement in quality between the last 16-bit port, for the Apple ][gs, and the first, for the Amiga. But the graphics still look better on the Amiga. So there! |

Has anyone figured out how to determine the damage that a weapon does? I've always wondered what the best weapons were, but there doesn't seem to be a good way to determine damage short of attacking the same type of monster with different weapons and taking the average. I've been going based off selling price, but that's not 100% accurate. Perhaps there's a way to find out with the Bards Tale Construction Set?
Bugs aside, is there any reason to go with a Warrior over a Paladin?

Hello Tempest. Yes you are correct in going by the sell price early on. Regarding the Construction Set there is a Item Editor section that details the factors of damage such as: Damage Dice, Hit Plus and Armor Plus.
The Paladin/Warrior question really just depends on your preference. As with all of these role-playing games (D&D, Bard's Tale) diversity is best so why not have one of each in your party? Every race has their limitations and benefits. In this case the Paladin can handle some enchanted weapons
that others can't and also have greater resistance to spells cast on them. However you are limited by their "religious values/beliefs" thereby it is not advisable to have evil characters within the same group. While the Warrior gains an extra attack capability for every four levels of experience after the
first. Enjoy your adventures and keep us posted. Haywire |

I think I may actually start out on the Macintosh version just because the B&W high res graphics look interesting. Then I'll just use a character editor to remake my guys for the Amiga version of BT II and III. I'm curious as to which bugged version I have and if the Mac version has the same problem. I know the DOS, IIe, and IIgs versions didn't (or I never noticed).

Ok my party is set:
Dwarf Paladin
Dwarf Hunter
Dwarf Monk
Dwarf Bard
Gnome Conjurer
Gnome Magician
I use Dwarfs because they have the highest strength and constitution. Maybe a different race would be better, but all the stats get to 18 eventually anyway and early being able to take a hit is what counts.

Well you won't be hitting your heads on anything. Be sure to use an Amiga when you get to creating your own maps with the construction set. Also brush up on your Deluxe Paint so you can transfer your drawings of characters. Haywire |

I finally got around to playing and beating the game. I started to get bored so I skipped the massive amount of leveling I do and decided to make a run at Mangar with my characters only around level 27. It took three times but he finally went down. The biggest problem was that the Vampire Lords kept turning my guys to stone and there's no spell that can cure that in the first game so three of my best guys were out of commission in the first round. Everyone was ultimately defeated by my Bard, two Magic Users, and my summoned Demon Lord (my Paladin was resurrected and therefore in the last slot so he couldn't fight). It was one crazy fight.
Onwards to Destiny Knight. First I need to use the hack program to create my characters on the Amiga version though. |

I'm sure you all have heard of CRPG Addict. Well there is a guy who I just recently found that did a playthough of Bard's Tale on Amiga in his blog. It was a good nostalgia trip. It's worth a look if you love BT like me.

The most interesting part was he actually completed the game with level 16 characters! |
