Can't believe the awesome time here! Nice one! Wink

Do you guys have iPhones?

Would this kind of game work well on iPhone do you think? Or would you break the iPhone screen, due to player experiencing excessive levels of adrenalin or something? I mean, most iPhone games are quite sedate aren't they? (not that I know, I don't have one yet).

No iPhone, but if you'd make similar game for PS3, I'd install it on couple of devices at least Wink. Would be nice to get some use for them for myself too... I'm not that into that crap they're making nowadays.

But good top down racer for any modern platform (even though I wouldn't be able to play them), yes please Smile

Anyway, ATR is just awesome. I remember that I played some X-mas demo when it came out, but never got into it too well to get the full game :/ But now when it was in the compo, wow.. just perfect game and so fun to drive. You can say it difficult, but actually it isn't as difficult as it seems to be when you bother to drive couple of rounds to learn the tracks. I guess those complainers just tried round or two and gave up too early. But the beauty is that even when you learn the tracks, it doesn't mean you master it too easily.. you can always be better.

Love this game 15 years passed and I still enjoy it at full like before when it was released.

How many years too late am I... Wink

qwak I see you guys have been busy creating games for Xbox Live Arcade if your still working with T-17 and ATR would be most welcome!! I think over-head gaming is coming back for a quick blast with Sega's new Renegade Ops coming out soon. ATR needs preserving. Emulation does not cut the mustard for me and would rather play the real thing, or something official on a new gen machine. This game is NOT for iphone or small hand held's. Big Screens only.

Ok.
Just wanted to add a story, from what I can remember - I bought this game twice. On release day and could not wait to get my hands on it.
I recall ATR was in fact finished a year before it was released and T-17 did not know what to do with it, as with many games they made and never published. They spent a year playing it to death, tampering, tuning and tweaking it that not only did it become one of the most optimized disk games ever released, but the end result had the game being one of the most polished and perfected games ever to be released on the Amiga.

Anyone who thinks this game is quality, now you know why. Anyone who thinks this game is hard, now you know why but with respect you need to put time into it, learn the tracks and you will be rewarded.

To be honest and in comparison Overdrive was poor other than the Music & GFX, but any game that has been cooking in the oven longer than most which is rare even today then quality always shines. ATR is awesome. It's the Sega Rally or Daytona USA of Over Head arcade racing and as lerker said this is a game for life.

Only prob is my amiga's will not last for life. XBL port please with added Jungle Terrain. Razz

Sorry to go on a bit. First post.

I see some mental crazy times have been done! I'm about 2sec's off the mark and never reached Alien as I was a sucker for not using Continues. I might take it off easy and see what I can do lol. Love the Buggy tho. I tried getting my 12 year son to play battle with me but I blow him away sadly. He can shoot a gun in COD but when it comes to 4 wheels he dad's the man haha!

Cheers. Very Happy

Thanks. I was going to save it for another time as my EASY difficulty times are off the mark but for now here are the first 3 terrains. Nice to know we have forever to keep at it which leaves me plenty of time to play. Wink

Your have to forgive the classic CRT flicker strobe of line-age going up the screen. Had to take 2 snaps of Forest to catch all the times. Sorry!

BTW it's funny to see Moon Track 2 time has not been cracked under the 30sec which is the default time!! That stage is a beast and I'm sure the guy at T-17 who set it was as well. Laughing

Cheers mihcael. Very Happy

I can't believe I took 1st place on Canyon Track 6, that was a fluke or I got lucky on the power-ups and only just... managed to keep hold of my ride.

If and when I get around to it I'll post some more, but you can breath as it won't be for a good while yet - need to put it back on as I have been busy with my head in another game.

Thanks again.

Hello,

Just a little background for you MIK UK..

It wasn't delayed, for anything like a year. I don't think they intentionally delayed it at all. It was perhaps in a near-finished state for at most two months before release, as I was working from the T17 offices, tweaking the levels to death..

Funny thing is, I kept getting comments from the T17 internal testers that the game was too hard; which just didn't make sense to me, seemed about right difficulty-wise. Really, with hind-sight, I should have sat down with them and watched them play the game.

I'm half tempted to do an update / new isometric racer, for iOS and other platforms. I've also, just done another top-down racer, for iOS, which is more in the style of Nitro, but with the speed of ATR (if not faster).

qwak,

Sorry... how late am I???

Now where did I read it was late, some Amiga mag or even price listings. Some gossip I might of had with the original GAME owners before EB took them over?? We had it on display down here in Southampton for weeks so people could play it in store. Why do I have it on the brain it was late?? Razz

Honestly I have seen it some where and I've known for years it was, ok not delayed just not release when it might off and then the words of like the rest of the year it was highly polished and it does shine in that very way. Games that have been cooking in the oven longer are mostly better! ATR is one of those! Very Happy
I have no idea how I have these wires crossed, but who am I to argue when you know the facts which you have just told me!! Shocked Very Happy

You know, I might of seen a preview screen very early on and straight away it was on the shopping list as I love overhead racers and maybe the wait created my mix up lol.

Hard... practice makes perfect like all great arcade games and on the plus side you allowed people to pick the starting level. Wink
ATR is the only disc I unprotected so I could save the scores and times, thats how cool it was.
I can play ATR today because it is a challenge but Micro Machines was the complete opposite and hard to put back on because it was too easy. Mind you Super Sprint that was released a number of years back in it's original form for xbox1 is even more extreme than ATR, but I guess free credits where I would only use the 1 per game keeps the masses at it a bit longer. Wink

But yeah I don't know why I've had it on the brain for years why ATR was held back... Not for the wrong reasons but for good, for the better and the game delivered!

Sorry I'm so late getting back, some how I missed the time when you posted and this topic was not highlighted on the outside.

Anyways,
Great game and many thanks!

One question.. Is this thread still active and open for new players and their times? Cause I'm playing again this superb game and would be cool if I could still contribute. :>
