hiya all,
Nice site you got going here, congrats! It made me fall in love with my commodores all over again, and now Retro-Nostalgia has a firm grip on me once more
I've just gotten an A600 off Ebay and there's a shitload of SW not working/improperly working that does just fine on my A2000B and A500... I was wondering (being one of those guys who just use their amiga for gaming) whether this is because i got a faulty unit or if it is due to the fact that the chipset is not the same... Since some SW works, I thought it might be the drive that's not adjusted properly, but that's not it - I switched the drive for my A500 one and the same errors occurred
So... any ideas/hints/experience you can share?
Thanks in advance! |

As far as I understood it and from what I can recall (never had an A600) the A600 is the same (more or less) as an A500+ but without keypad and with PCMCIA (can't remember memory size).
It might simply be a case of Kickstart compatibility - you probably need to use some downgrading software like Degrader, WHDLoad etc..

The Amiga 500 came with a 68000 processor, 512k ram, and OCS chipset
The 500+ came with a 68000 processor, 1mb of RAM, the Enhanced Chip Set (ECS)
The 600 was basicly the same as the 500+ but with upgraded WB (2.05 instead of 2.0... minor changes) and PCMCIA.
conclusion... because of the different chipsets between 500 and 600 some games and apps will not work _________________ Mea navicula pendens anguillarum plena est |

Thanks guys!
I'll try the downgrading workaround, and if it doesn't cut it, then my wife will have to put up with a bigger amiga on my desk
Actually I bought the A600 exactly for that reason (and only for that reason!): to minimize the space eaten up by commodore things on my desk... but hey, it's still a nice thing to have, innit? The Commodore Family is growing... A500, A2000 B, A600, A1200 already bought, C128...
The A1200 will hopefully serve me well when it comes to transferring ADF's back to where they belong
Thanks again for the advice! See you in the forum! |
