Yep, Fiery Phoenix here - so called because becuase thats what they called me in Zzap when I appeared in a readers challenge ( sad claim to fame - mentioned 314 times )

28 years old ( dreading the big 30 next year ) been into gaming since I was this high ( picture me with my hand to my knee )

I had a C64 for my Xmas present in 1983 and LOVED it - remember loading up Super Blitz - one of the games that came free with it - and becoming addicted. I got all the mags from the time, Zzap, C&VG, etc.

I then woke up on Xmas morning 1988 to find Santa had bought me an Amiga! The C64 ( ashamed I know ) was pushed aside for the Amiga and I excitingly played my new games such as Out Run & Op Wolf. Again, I must have bought every mag going ( or rather my mum and dad did! ) Amiga Power, Amiga Action, Amiga Format, ZERO, etc, most of which I still have today tucked away under my bed ( my face is nearly touching the ceiling! )

It was with the Amiga that I found multi-player gaming experience. Being a sad only child I played most of the C64 games on my own, but with secondary school, greater gaming experience and most handily - some friends. I played all the faves, Speedball 2, Kick Off's, Goal, Sensi Soccer, PGA and Premier Manager ( some saved games I still have now! ) Then of course people grow up, go to college / uni, etc and leave their gaming experiences behind. Not me though. I kepy my trusty Amiga in my room, still playing on it up to about 1999, when I decided to purchase a PC! Whoo hoo! I had a PLaystation in-between, but never felt that some love for it I did for the C64 & Amiga ( I'm not a joypad person if you know what I mean ) Of course the PC / internet opened my eyes to retro gaming - I can still remember discovering MAME and trawlling the sites for ROMS ( remember that great site mame.dk? ) loading up Paperboy and hearing those samples I always wanted to hear and my C64 & Amiga versions bough the love right back. Then of course there was the discovery of Abondonware and playing a load of classics like Secret of Monkey Island and The Fate of Atlantis again - this time without the disk swapping! Then of course C64 and Amiga emulators and it was like being back in the hey day of gaming!

Sadly I keep a record of EVERY C64 / Amiga game I own. Istarted writing them on piecs of paper then graduated to Pen Pal on the Amiga. It started because I started to lose track of games which I lent my mates. I'm proud to sy I have 431 C64 games ( the best being Thrust, Head Over Heels, Go Go The Ghost ) and 476 Amiga games ( my faves being Rocket Ranger, Wings and the oters in my auto signiture )

Don't get as much time for gaming now, what with work ( working for a major bank in the UK as a Business Assessor, approving or decling mortgages - usually declining! ) and of course having a girlfriend ( not that much of a geek ) Last games I played to completion were the Tex Murphy adventures ( Under a Killing Moon, Pandora Directive and Overseer ) and Grim Fandango - all of which I loved and get all misty eyed over - much like the classics of yesteryear. Sometimes whilst shopping in the supermarket I have a read of the new gaming mags and they just dont hold the same interest for me any more - we have all been there, seen it and done it.

What else?

Music - like all stuff - not particular one type of music. Last albums which I really liked were The Killers and Maroon 5's. But there are so many, Depeche Mode, Donald Fagen, Everlast, Fiona Apple, etc - all different types.

Films - any film where you can't see the end coming ( not a big action film fan ) I like stuff like Pulp Fiction, The Usual Suspects, Donnie Darko, Vanilla Sky, etc. Althoug I like the odd comedy - Old School, Meet the Parent / Fockers, etc are great for a laugh.

I love reading, but don'thave time for books as I'm one of those blokes who reads the newspaper cover to cover. I read The Sun and can't beat Sunday mornings with a bacon barm and a copy of the News of the World. It's what being English is all about.

Of course there is footy ( Man Utd fan - and I am from Manchester! ) not into any other sports such as rugby or cricket.

Getting a bit too old for clubbing now - everytime I go out everybody is about 15-17, makes you feel well old. WIll have to start going to grab a granny places to feel young again. You also know when your getting old as I 'm starting to moan about EVERYTHING - especially teenage yobs, smashed bus shelters, etc, and find myself muttering bring back the birch!

Oh yeah, I love jokes - I was always the class clown and still act like that now in work. I love one liner jokes and can't stand long winded jokes. I would post some on here, but would'nt want to offend anyone!

Sorry for wittering on, but I'll end with a line someone said once, which should suit most of us gamers down to the ground:

We don't play anymore because you grow old

We grow old becuase we don't play

Or something similar.........

Shocked do I smell burnt fingertips?

<bows before a noble Zzap devotee> Big Smile

Your 28 but dread being 30 next year? Glad you don't work for a ban.. oh you do Wink I'm 32 this year.. growing old sneaks up on you - even if you're prepared for it (you have to make time to play).

Keep those mags they are very important (well except Zzaps after issue 38ish).

Welcome to thee - have good time here!

I need broadband first. I nearly died of exhaustion scanning my original Amiga covers and e-mailing them here. It took over a month. Honest.
