|
|
Is anyone aware of a compact computer workstation that can fit an Amiga 500+ as well as a 14" CRT TV?
All the ones I've seen in UK stores are destined for PCs so the sliding keyboard tray will never fit an A500 on it.
I can't just go for one huge desk as I'm very limited for space - I have around 700mm (width) to get a desk into(!!)
Ideally I wanted something with a sliding tray so I could put the A500 itself on there (provided it leaves room for floppy drive access) and use the main desk for the TV, mouse/joystick.
I just can't seem to find one in the UK anywhere! Arrgh!

maybe a wall mount for the monitor would work?
ages ago i shortened the legs of a smaller table and placed it on top of a larger table.. thus having space for amiga and monitor |

Back in the day I made my own and that was easy.
It was more a breakfast bar type thing where one piece of coated chip board would be the main part, plastic clip rail to clean the edges off and then I bought poles with the holders and screwed them to the Table and floor to stop it moving.
Next an extra smaller long sheet of the same stuff I made a U shape using white plastic 90 degree block holders to hold the weight of my monitor. Again I would use these 90 degee screw holders blocks to join the table to the wood beam I just drilled into the wall to hold the thing all up at the back. As you can guess I turned the U shape upside down so my A500+ would sit perfect under the monitor allowing space to take the disc's out. My spare drive would sit up next to the screen and as it was a wide table I put speakers at each end. I even had room for a Sega Satrun & PS1 on the sides haha!
But yeah it's simple enough to make one to your liking and it will look clean once done and your mig is up and running on it. Just make sure the table is not too high so base it around the chair you will be using so it's comfortable.
Before you start put a nice shelf on the wall at a good height and then your speakers and other things can go up here out of the way! _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. Plus an A500+ Yum. |

Nooo!! TFT/LED-screens have awful interpolation which looks horrible.
About the desk: Why do you want a "computer desk"? I always found them to be awkwardly designed with the stupid keyboard-drawer and stuff you always end up hitting your knee against.
I just use a simple table that provides as much legroom as possible and put both my A500 and my freakishly huge modified TV-set (well, it's just 24") on it. _________________ Pat's Nostalgia

The higher the pixel resolution of the screen the worst it gets too. Everything looks like it's made of wax with anything that uses the classic RGB screen modes be it Amiga or Megadrive. Even Dreamcast on VGA, (640x480) can suffer at the hands of a 1080p LED screen in 4:3.
CRT all the way if using the real thing, unless you don't care how it looks.
BTW some newer LCD & LED screens have sound lag. It maybe only a couple of 100th's of a second but it's enough to put you off if you know better. Try external speakers before you commit your self to the screens speakers. _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II.
