Found this today, it allows you to play modern games online (with a decent connection), free to register and try new game demos. Played a few of the newer game demos on a laptop with only a 945 express gpu.

http://www.onlive.com/

I think it's US only.

And no, I'm not spamming.

Seen it before and was massively apprehensive with regards to the costs associated with it. I have seen something about BT being involved with it in the UK. Most people in the UK just don't have a connection good enough for this sadly (me included).

Had an email yesterday mentioning a unlimited play deal of $9.99 a month - I trashed and didn't read the details.

As for UK broadband hopefully it will improve and at a decent price, if you watch a streamed movie online I'd think it might not be too bad.. as far as I can see that's all it is, with you controlling it remotely.. tried a couple of racing demos which suffered from too much control lag.

I think it still needs improvement and I don't think I'd pay for the service (not just yet) - but with regards to copy-protection I think this has massive appeal for the software houses.

From what I saw there was a subscription cost for onlive ($15.00 a month I believe) and then a further cost for the games themselves with the option of unlimited access at the cost of a normal full price game ($39.99) or time limited for example $3.99 for 4 days access to the game.

Also worth noting the "unlimited access" is actually time limited to 3 years. Games are rarely run at full detail to reduce the server stress. Then there is the cost of your personal bandwidth if you exceed usage levels etc.

Obviously you would consider all this instead of paying for a top spec pc. I can see the appeal and it is all personal choice but this is a non starter for me at least until the infrastructure is there.

Play Pack BETA is what I was referring to.

But yes I agree that it's not really good enough just now - and I'd hate the scenario where this was the only option to play games.
