New member here from Lemon 64. I have a couple of 64's and 3 128s.
I never owned an Amiga but looking to change that. Mainly looking for a System just to play games. What is the best system for this? 1000? 1200? 3000? If there is a good thread about this please post the link. Thanks. |

| welcome to the site. I hope your amia when you get it will give you many hours of enjoyment. As for what to get, id suggest a 1200 or a 600. Im sure the other members will send on a few more pointers. |

97% of all games will play very well on A 500 (v1.2/v1.3) with 1/2 Mega extra Ram(internal expansion - goes under the computer).
The other ~3% needs AGA, so You've to have A 1200 (v3.0/v3.1).
On A 1200 You could play the other 97% of games with some exeptions(there is some tricks in boot menu to improve compatibility etc).
My advice :
Go play ALL games on WinUae !
If You still want to buy actual machine(for some reason?) then You go for A 500 with KickStart 1.3 + 1/2 M memory extension.
P.S. Avoid A 600 at any cost! (belive me - You'll save Yourself from lots of problems : incompatibility with too many games, keyboard without num. ?!, overheating...) _________________ ☭ Some people says : Amiga has no future ! ☭

Welcome, roushinator--
I visit lemon64 occasionally, as I'm wont to do.
I noticed there's a poll (maybe an old one) asking
if 'Lemon 64/Amiga is just as good as...'
I like both sites; I happen to roam this one more,
as I spent more time on my Amiga [500] back
in the day.
Good luck with your planned purchase--as CTOJAH
said, you can go the WinUAE route to achieve
nirvana _________________ Who is John Galt?

Great to have you with us, I really should spend more time at Lemon 64.
The choice of Amiga would vary depending on what you want to do with it or what kind of nostalgic trip you're after.
For many the A1200 answers most of their requirements, it'll run almost all software, take a harddrive without many issues etc. but to my mind isn't a good Amiga experience having started with the earlier models of Amiga.
Personally I would go for an A500, A500+ or A2000 (essentially a big box A500 with easier expansion capabilities including harddrives).
If we can help just let us know. _________________ Please refer all site and database related matters directly to me - incl. missing games, links, screenshots and suggestions.

Go for an A1200 with added fast ram and a hdd.
Then you need to:
1. Get a PCMCIA Compact flashcard adapter to easily transfer files between PC and Amiga.
2. Install WHDLoad and play games from hdd and never have to fiddle with any floppy disks. _________________ RIP mom (1953-2008) |

That is why i was leaning toward a 1200. Maybe i will get both. |
