Hello.

I have an original CD32 joypad from Commodore, and I am trying to find a guide to, by color, what all its buttons do, and what their "names" are. I don't care if it's a photo of the joypad with each button described, or a text document that just breaks down the buttons by color. That's all I need to know.

I figured this would be easy info to find, but every webpage and FAQ about the CD32 that I've found only has information about off-brand joypads, or joypad schematics. NOTHING has actually described the original joypad and its buttons, which I find quite odd and unhelpful. Sad

As I am new to the CD32, having this information on hand would be quite useful.

Thanks in advance.

Each button is unique to the game that you are playing. Typically the red button is the fire button and the most frequently used. Some games don't use all of the buttons. No special info the manual aside from controlling the CD player with the game controller.

Yes, that much I've figured out.

But surely, there is a more detailed bit of info out there somewhere? In the official CD32 instruction manual, perhaps?

all buttons can you use if you play CD music and some games use all CD32 buttons like Super stardust.

if you have some CD32 Game magazine you can hold yellow for one demo and use them all.

if you hold the red button I think you coming to all saved games, , you can unlock and lock them with the blue button. (100 memory in CD32 to save)

I finally managed to find a scan of the original CD32 manual, and even it doesn't offer any real detail in regard to the joypad buttons. This is the first time I've ever seen a console manual be so vague...

So, it seems you were all quite correct with your descriptions. Thanks for your help.

Yes, I've seen them. Obviously the first, original joypad is made by Commodore and the other two are made by other companies. However was there only ONE design of the first, original joypad? Or did Commodore produce a slightly different design (different button colors, layout, etc.) at some point?

Is there a diagnostic program available to test the function of all joypad buttons to ensure they are working properly?

I use six button sega pads with my CD32 and it works fine. Sometimes the button configuration is different with some games like Chaos Engine for example. So don't think you are pigeon holed to only use the CD32 gamepads. Any 9 pin sticks or pads will work. The color buttons were just Commodores specific gimmick for the unit that game creators followed for matching it up with the CD32.

OK. Do any of the games make use of all seven buttons? If there isn't a diagnostic program available to test the joypads, this would be an acceptable alternative.

Many of the games on the CD32 use not all Seven buttons.

I remember those use all buttons ? but many use two buttons Red and Blue.

Microcosm
SuperStardust
Simonthesorcerer
Battletoads
Fireforce
Pirates Gold
Diggers

Could you please test and confirm which games make use of all 7 buttons? I will buy one of the games just to have a full joypad test. Thanks.
