Good evening forum, since these months are no longer come on the forum because I was busy, but now I can always connect in the forum, quanche member of the forum you remember me, I want to open this discussion on one of my favorite games of the Amiga "Lotus". The title of the thread is called 'Lotus IV? "Since I opened a petition on facebook, so as to reach the largest possible number of fans, so that this game can be created, I think that Lotus deserves another sequel, which is much better looking than the third chapter, you who think of this idea?

Here's the link:

I wanted to ask if it was created "Lotus IV", in which areas you would like it to be set, such as Lotus models must be included, and so on ....

Here's a story from behinds the scenes of which I'll share but will not take any further.

If you don't know Sumo Digital were formed by some of the team from Gremlin Graphics. Tho Shaun Southern is no where to be found and no one knows where he is.

I often chat with one of their producers at Sumo Digital and I got on to the subject of using Sega's OutRun2 engine as used on XBOX, 360 & PS3 for a new Lotus game. At the time Sumo Digital were working with the local school on a computer game making related project looking back at Gremlin Graphics past. The students were also thinking about doing a Lotus Remake...

Sumo said that Lotus is one of the most expensive car licences to obtain in the business as they chased it up on behalf of the students so the thought of doing a Lotus remake stopped there and then. Sumo also added that if such a thing would happen that it would be Top Gear... if anything were to happen as it by-passes licence issues but the name would have to chance for obvious reasons. Very slim chance we will ever see another Lotus game in the same style as before. You have more chance of seeing man land on Mars in our life time than you do a Lotus game!

So with that knowledge I'm sure you can understand that Petitions are going to get you no where. Only money will do the talking and even then only if it's the right price. It's not that they would not want too, it's the cost and that the game would not cover the loss that would be made.

Even Daytona USA has only sold just over 10,000 units on XBL at this time. Unless there is a gun on the screen then today's kids are not interested in buying. Sad times.

I am not in favor of a remake of Lotus, but at least they create a direct sequel of the third chapter. Then see a new Lotus would be very nice, certainly did not have the graphics and gameplay as he had the first three chapters, but the 3D style like Gran Turismo. I think if the fans want quarter Lotus can be created at the end Sumo Digital to create it, because what counts the money, but I would like to review a Lotus IV, with new locations, for example: the race in Savannah , in the rainforest, in a metropolis, in the glaciers and so on ....
However I did not know Sumo Digital, with information.

I don't think that Lotus games have any peculiar characteristics which would justify the idea of making Lotus IV. As well one can make a complete new game of the same genre.

Instead I see the special features where you can create a fourth chapter of the Lotus. The levels of the second and third chapters, are extraordinary, I think they could invent new environments for Lotus, then could come up with the idea of including fifteen levels as in the first and third chapters, then you could do that at each level there is a championship race and time trial, for example: level 1 - championship race, level 2 - time trial, then you can change the music while you drive, when each finished level you can change any Lotus model. I wanted to make a list of the fifteen new Lotus environments IV: Savanna, dark road, rainforest, the city's past, the lake, metropolitan city, the hills, the gothic city, the farm, the road transport, glaciers, flooding, wildfires, the beach, the grand prix. As new models could enter the Exile Lotus, Elise and Evron. What do you think?

If only there was a racing contruction kit on the Amiga. We have one for shoot-em-ups with SEUCK, we have platformer action with Backbone, we have Bards Tale Contruction kit, 3D Contruction Kit, Boulderdash Contruction Kit, heck, we even have one for Meganoid. All it would take would be for someone to code a general racing game engine - something fast and smooth - like the Lotus 2 engine, the Vroom engine or the Stunt Car Racer engine if it was a 3D racing game. Then the users could design any car as a sprite without the need for Licences (you only need a licence for a shareware or otherwise commercial game in which you request money) - PD and abandonware / community remakes should be fine. As the words 'Lotus Cars' is copyright, you'd have to change it to 'Lottus' or something - just as Shawn and Andrew renamed the drivers in their game under pseudonyms 'T. Hairy Bootson', 'Nigel Mainsail' etc - to get around that.

In the meantime, the makers of Lotus 3 included a construction kit within the game so that players could expand the tracks to their hearts content. I'd make do with this for the time being.

As for remaking a Lotus game like Gran Turismo, I once bought a game called Lotus Challenge (by Titus Interactive) for the Ps2 many years ago. It sucked.

That contruction kit idea would of been great for Lotus. Like Worms we could of used D-paint and created our own backgrounds. That would of been cool. Maybe that would be the easiest way to hack into the game to make it look different if anyone is up for it. Wink

There is one more environment unique to the Sega Megadrive version which goes by the name of Lotus II. It is an OutRun Beach and Palm Tree style stage with Time Bonus Capsules. This replaced the Mountain stage which didn't work on the Amiga in my view. Having said that this new stage on the Megadrive does not work well either as it's totally flat and no hills can be generated which includes R.E.C.S. Totally flat...

The Megadrive version of Lotus Turbo Challenge which is Lotus II on the Amiga is a little harder to complete if you fancy another challenge. Wink

Great video, I think that Lotus IV should enter the race in the championship and have the time, then if the player can change the music while driving. Have you seen my list of environments in the previous answer?

That will never happen. Lotus (series) was great... ...on Amiga platform. Nowadays Need for Speed is much popular (Gran Turismo on PS3) and games like Lotus will be financial fiasco for developers/publishers (I am sorry for that, too). However there is small chance - some enthusiasts with spare free time could make Lotus 4... ...or Shadow of the Beast 4(which I want more then Lotus !)... ...maybe SuperFrog 2 and so on...
