How many of you have an Amiga setup in living room? I do. It is nice to have it hooked to a big LCD and a hifi set, but there are some practical problems. My machine is in a bookshelf. This makes typing with keyboard really awkward. I don't want to have it on floor either. Another thing is that my wife will be insulted, if my Amiga set demans too much attention. She was already shocked when she understood that Amiga is a femine form of Amigo...
That's why I am curious to know, what kind of solutions you have used to make using Miggy in living room practical? If you think that you have a nice looking set in living room that is also practical, please post a picture! I would like to be able to type with keyboard easily still using this big screen.
Sometimes I phantasize about separate LCD, but when I look prices, I notice that small LCD-tv:s are actually more expensive than bigger ones. And we don't have space for another big telly, that's why I am looking for small one. |

My main Amiga is placed in my living room as well, but is not attached to a TV, it has its own table with separate 19" LCD monitor. _________________

Amiga & PC share the same computer table and still do to this very day.
Amiga came first and was always on a computer table. Not the other way around.
I was online with my Amiga long before I got my 1st PC and I never bought the PC the replace the Amiga so the PC was fitted around my mig. It's still setup that way in 2012 without really thinking about where it should be, it's always had a home. _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. TV Trays are not that common in Finland as in States. We usually have bigger TV tables instead of trays that are not practical with computers. So never thought that before, but it is actually a clever idea, thanks! I am looking for a permanent solution, and there seems to be some TV Table Trays with wheels as well. I need to find out if local Ikea has them here. |

Alas, my beloved A1200 is no longer is alive, and I do not believe it will live again .. long story.
When it was alive though, it had a space to hide away under the TV cabinet, and then it would simply slide its way out with a nice long set of leads (had a nice thin but firm piece of plastic that kept it off the carpet and vents open).
I had a nice memory expansion and 4GB compact flash HD with WHDLoader, all running through a decent sound system and no less than 50 inches of visual pleasure
Looks like my picture is still up, so here is a pic
As for the comments about wives and Amiga's, yeah, my wife gave me some stick, but she is pretty understanding
I explained it is the same how she likes watching old black and white movies... low quality grainy low tech films... well, my Amiga is the same. It may be lower quality image and sound, but just like there are classic old movies, there are classic old games. Plus she understands the sentimental value remembering all the good times gaming with my father who was taken from us. So yeah, keep the setup neat and give her a good reason, and you might actually find the missus warming to the ol Amiga like mine has ... heck, she never even knew what an Amiga was before meeting me HAHA! _________________ A1200 RIP

I only do Amiga emulation in the living room (via a set top box w/ custom frontend). The Amigas stay downstairs in the basement computer room to use w/ the 1084, etc. _________________ Still stuck in the 1980s. My mame cabinet and 8 bit game room:

One of my A1200s lives in my front room - connected to the main TV
I spend quite a bit of spare time 'playing' these days. _________________ Amigas Owned: A1000 (NTSC, 512KB RAM)

I fired up my Amiga 600 the other night and, much to my surprise, I haven't been able to keep away from it since. A week ago, I was about 90% in favour of offloading all my Amiga stuff, but now it looks like the only thing I'll be getting rid of is the A1200 I've promised to Zeropolis.
I live in a studio flat so any computer/console that doesn't fit on my coffee table with room to spare is impractical for me to keep. The A600 just about makes the grade. _________________ I'm an army of one... The man with the gun.

As long as she's pretty - I can live without understanding.

And I thought I was the only one! Glad to know somebody else likes those old flicks as much as I do - even if she lives on the other side of the planet!

Ha-Ha - that old Amiga magic strikes again! So much charm packed inside a little case. Sometimes I wish I had (any) one of my Amigas back. |
