| I recently had to do this repair on my A4000. I used lemon juice to neutralise the alkaline (a real lemon, not synthetic stuff) and then used pcb cleaner from Maplin to clean it all up. |

Im really not sure why folks use lemon juice, it's acidic too! (ever heard of citric acid?) 
Get medical or electronics grade Isopropyl Alcohol and use that with cotton tips or/and a toothbrush to remove the battery acid.

The battery doesn't have acid in it - it is alkaline. Hence why you use lemon juice, which is acidic and neutralises the alkaline on the motherboard (you will see it fizz.)
Then you just use a bit of PCB cleaner to wash both off. But you need the acid to remove any corrosion. |

Really  the use of lemon juice really works mite give it a go i got a 512k memory exp that had poped battery on it loads of corrosion around it.
