Like it or not, he was an important part of our collective history, thanks for the memories.

He was a legend. As our leader and even as our foe. May you rest in peace, Jack. _________________

The man did way more for personal computing than Steve Jobs ever did, and yet, no way in hell will they pass a resolution recognizing him before the US House like they did with jobs. Life is so unfair at times.
Computers for the masses, not the classes.
Bye, Jack. |

I admit to feeling nothing when Steve Jobs died.
But this news makes me almost cry. Suddenly memories of playing "Jump man" and "Bruce Lee" on my C=64 back in the early 80's are flashing before me.
Farewell you great man. |

Jack's humble and difficult beginnings in WW2 Poland and later starting from scratch in USA (plus the later rise and fall of Commodore + Atari's rise/slide) would make a fine movie - life story.
Yet, the interest isn't there like it was/is for Jobs and Wozniak's humble beginnings. |

If you saw the 25th anniversary footage on Commodore,
you saw where he easily recognized what a great machine
the 64 was--to him it was a matter of being able to afford
to build a machine that most people could afford at the time.
83's a nice ripe old age--hope I can make it there. _________________ Who is John Galt?

Tramiel did have a connection to the Amiga. When he was running Atari, he was ready to purchase the Amiga when Commodore came in and snatched it from him. Atari Amiga just doesn't sound right. |

Not to mention that just after moving to Atari, while Commodore was suing former engineers that moved with him, he/Atari served Amiga a $100 million lawsuit. hehe. Business is a funny game.
But hey, he took a risk bringing the PET to market and it was a brilliant move that he deserves more recognition for. As well as being the major player for bringing cheap computers to Europe. His successes led to a lot of great development. _________________

Only just found out, randomly whilst surfing tech sites.
Very sad. The Jackintosh (ST), although being the enemy of the Amiga was and admirable foe. My favourite game of all time ever, across any platform, is Dungeon Master. It was developed for the ST and was the ST's best selling game of all time. If it wasn't for the ST, maybe DM would never have existed....
Sad times. |
