|
|
Have been reading a lot on the net about removing the battery from the amiga before it leaks and destroys the motherboard.
Can someone advise where its located on a 1200 motherboard and is it a case of just unclipping like on a pc or is it soldered on like a transister?
If its clipped, can it just be changed with a fresh battery?
If its soldered on like a transister, can you un-soldier it or "cut" the legs with pliers and it wont affecting the amiga?
Im worried it might make a electical curcuit somehow and removing would damage the 1200 in some way?
Im assuming mine is dead as my 1200 hasnt kept the correct time since i got it from ebay 5 years ago.
Thanks in advance _________________ Owned:

The 1200 motherboard doesn't have a battery.
If you have an Accelerator/RAM card, it might have a battery on that card.

Yeah I'll second that. Only found on memory boards on A1200's.
On my Apollo 060/50 died early 2000's and my second is just starting to slow now on the clock. As my machine is in a Tower I cut it off and soldered wires to the pins. Next I cut the neck off a plastic bottle... The battery fits nice and tight in the lid of the bottle so when I screw the lid back onto the small neck I cut off it holds the battery. All that was left to do was to make a small spring contact which would be held by the neck touching the battery when it was all screwed up. Of course there is a contact in the lid.
That's how easy it is to replace my battery now and as it's on wires it gives me room to move the battery well away from any circuit boards. May take a snap at some point as I need to get in there for a looks. _________________ A1200T, Apollo 1260, 32MB RAM, 3.1 ROMS, 4GB HD, Z4 Board, Picasso II, IOBlix (Serial/Parallel), Squirrel SCSI, 2X CD, IDE 100MB Zip Drive, OS - DOpus Magellan II. Glad to hear my a1200 is safe, i have a 500+ as well but its wrapped up ready for moving home in the next month or so, I have the worst feeling about it as its been playing up for a while and i'm dreading what i will find when i get round to opening it up.
Prob be another amiga off to the scrapyard in the sky _________________ Owned:

Yes A500+ does have a battery on the mother board. I took mine out about 6 months ago and it had already started to leak but no damage was done. I just cut it out.
It's not your normal battery. It's that big blue thing just off the trap door in the piccy. This was just before I took it off.
If your using it as a games machine like I do then don't worry about putting another one in. The machine will run fine without one.

Just unpacked and opened my my a500 as it was bugging me about checking the battery
Located it and found a tiny bit of leakage, had only just touched the motherboard so cut the battery out and wiped off the acid
Lucky escape for the amiga i think lol _________________ Owned:

The models that need the most attention to battery condition are the A500+, A2000, A3000, and A4000.
The A3000d and A4000d can be killed pretty easily by a leaking battery.
If you want/need to run a battery in these models, keep it off the motherboard (run wires to the battery and put it a small plastic box). This can work wonders. |

Just opened up my A2000, in storage for 10-12 years. The battery had
a lot of corrosion, so cut it off. Now installing a new battery (green this
time, not blue), using wires to get the battery away from the MOBO.
Now on to a A2000 with Video Toaster. Don't know What I will find. _________________ PapaBear
