Released in 1991 for the Amiga home computer, Cover Girl Strip Poker is one of the only true “adult” genre poker games of the era. A lot of today’s top online poker rooms and casinos may offer faster entertainment with better picture resolution, but you won’t find a venue allowing you to explore the purely naughty side of poker.

Like most Amiga games are viewed in 2009, Cover Girl Strip Poker is a bit outdated. But that doesn’t mean that the game’s not a classic. For people who loved this game, it was one of the all-time best released adult genre games. After all, if you’re looking to play poker on a home computer, almost every videogame offered the same selection of games played by the same rules. It was the bevy of beautiful and buxom women stripping down to bare chests that made this game something to remember.
The game itself was short, sweet and to the point. It was a true game for men. Although it only takes a few minutes to “beat” the game and reach your true payout, it was fun to experience. Imagine a playable men’s magazine; that’s about what Cover Girl Strip Poker amounts to. The graphics are what you’d expect from a game of the era: a bit dull and nothing spectacular.

One of the game’s downsides is that there’s no sound. The entire game is comprised of a series of images. For the early age of videogames, these pictures actually had good resolution. It arrived on the scene at a time when Amiga was trying to make the push to keep pace with other systems on the market. Though the brand would ultimately fail, they still managed to develop a thorough niche with the help of adult games like this.
Another downside to the game is that it presented no challenge whatsoever. The 5-card draw was set up in order for the person playing to easily win. And while this may have not acted as a deterrent, it did ensure that Cover Girl Strip Poker wasn’t a legitimate poker game. But as previously mentioned if a person wanted a game solely for poker, their options were vast.

At the end of the day, Cover Girl Strip Poker is a novelty game that Amiga tried to boost their profile with. Ultimately, it didn’t work and Amiga faded into oblivion. But if all you ever remembered them for was this game, that’s a pretty good legacy. After all, you can easily find roulette, blackjack, craps and any other game you want at online game rooms and casinos today, but can you find girls taking their clothes off after you win a hand?

FOTY2 got a mixed press back in the day; too similar to the original for sure to really be classed as a sequel, but people don't like change anyway. Probably.
That said, the change to the match engine adds some twitch-action and is almost a memory test, but that is no bad thing.
The game overall provides a different experience; neither the thrill of a full-blown 11-a-side nor the cerebral posers of a management game, making it therefore hard to define. So I won't; all I'll say is that this is well worth a play. Try it - you might enjoy it.
