Cruise for a Corpse 1991, US Gold
Who killed Niklos Karaboudjan?

That's the question that needs to be answered. You (inspector Raoul Dusentier) was looking forward to a nice cruise on a ship owned by the wealthy Niklos Karaboudjan. However, immediately upon your arrival you're encountered with his corpse. Let the game begin....

Cruise for a Corpse is a typical Agatha Christie murder story set in 1926 where everyone onboard the large sailingboat is a suspect. Your task is to search for clues and question everyone onboard about their relationship to Niklos. As the story develops it becomes quite clear that everyone onboard has a pretty solid motive.

"Corpse" is probably not appealing to everybody since a lot of time is laid on questioning people onboard and it lacks the humour that lies within typical Lucasarts adventures. But if you're patient you will surely be rewarded as the plot slowly unfolds.

Every time you do something "right" the clock in the game progress 10 minutes. The game starts at 8 am and is concluded around 6.30 pm. This is a pretty clever system but it also makes the game more difficult since certain clues and hints can only be found at certain times during the day.

The hand drawn graphics in the game are outstanding (by Amiga standards) and runs perfectly smooth even on a 1 meg A500.
The characters in the game are polygon based, however this works pretty well (as long as they donīt get to close to the "camera")
The graphical setup is very similar to the Alone in the dark games.

Moving the inspector around the boat to search for clues and question people is extremely easy. To investigate anything just press left mouse on it, if you want to view your inventory just press right mouse - very simple, very good.
You also have a good map overlooking the ship making it possible to move anywhere very quickly which is nice since it would be a pain to watch yourself moving around the big ship.

The music in the game fits the setting very well. Sound FX are integrated at certain points (ship creaking, sound of the sea etc) which add to the atmosphere along with the music.

Was it the butler? Only one way to find out...

Review Summary
GRAPHICS: 10 / 10
Probably the best graphics seen in any Amiga adventure game, at least by OCS/ECS standard.

SOUND: 8 / 10
Very nice music that fits the game perfectly. Good sound FX also add to the atmosphere.

PLAYABILITY: 10 / 10
Extremely easy to get into, the point and click interface is one of the best I've seen. Runs very well and smooth on any Amiga. Some disk jerking with 1 drive though since the game is on 5 disks.

OVERALL: 10 / 10
Although it lacks the humour of the Monkey Island games, it's still one of the absolute best adventure games made for the Amiga.
