Review
Settlers, The 1993, Blue Byte
The first time I came across The Settlers was at the Party '93 or '94 (I can't remember...). I was a bit amazed that dozens of Amiga freaks were playing the same game. A game which was somewhat hard to learn, even... but after playing a hacked copy for a few hours, I decided to buy the original!

The original comes with three disks, and is HD installable. The game opens with a nice, but not superior intro, with the main character, you Mr. Knight, entering a settlers village.

You can play against computer and/or a friend, with a maximum of four opponents in a game. The map size can be altered, depending on the Amiga that you have. Playing on a big map means that opponents are harder to reach and these games will take up more time. You can also play 30 levels, in which you have to beat computer opponents.

After the game starts, you have to place your HQ (a castle) somewhere on the map. Place it near enough gold, stone, iron and coal, enabling you to expand your empire during the game.

After placing your castle, the game begins! Start to build roads, build knight houses to expand your empire and build all other houses to create all kinds of relevant stuff, like stones, wood & food! The key to success is a good infrastructure; when your infrastructure is in place, all things you create can be send back and forth to your HQ. This will enable you to expand quicker than your opponents and to create a larger army with stronger soldiers. In the end, your enemies will surrender to you!

I have played this game for hours & hours; furthermore, it was voted second in the All-time Amiga Games Top 50. Therefore, I dare to state that this is one of the best Amiga games ever!
