The Movie
We've all heard about Batman, the dark knight and protector of Gotham City. After his parents were killed when he was a little boy, he swore to protect Gotham City from crime.
In 1989 the movie was released starring Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. The movie had a HUGE success and was the biggest money-earning movie in 1989! Jack Nicholson received a salary of over SIXTY MILLION DOLLARS for his role as the Joker and the movie also won an academy award.
The Story
The game is based on the movie from the same year and Batman wants to avenge his parents death. It was the Joker who killed them and Batman won't rest before Joker lies dead. If you have seen the movie, you probably know the story already.
5 Different Challenging Levels.
The great thing about this game is that all 5 levels are different, so you will have fun trough out the entire game and experience a lot of variety:
1. The Axis Chemicals Factory - Batman tries to stop Jack Napier (aka the Joker), but must first pass trough his brutal gang. To succeed, Batman must dodge their attacks and use his "wonderful toys" to eliminate them.
After that, he will find Jack, but how does he become the Joker? I bet you already know how, if not: play this game or watch the movie!
2. The Driving Part - This is everyone's favourite level. Driving the awesome batmobile - a car cooler than both Lotus and Jaguar! Batman must drive fast because his time is limited. He must also drive carefully to not get damaged by hitting other cars. One more thing... the police is out there and you must try to trick them! The batmobile can cast a rope and hit a pole to swing away from the police. It's not an easy task and only an experienced batmobile driver can succeed.
"To the Batmobile, let's go!"
3. Find Out Smilex's Ingredients - Joker wants to poison Gotham City and Batman is using his computer in the Batcave to discover the ingredients of Joker's evil weapon, Smilex. Smilex can be made out of soap, lipstick, perfume etc. If you know about a classic game called "Mastermind", you know what I'm talking about.
4. The Flying Part - Another cool level. This time you have the opportunity to fly the Batplane! The Joker has "installed" the Smilex gas in his giant balloons. The plane must "hook up" all the balloons and get them out of Gotham before it is too late!
"Those are my balloons.....HE STOLE MY BALLOONS!!!"
5. The Cathedral - The final level, which has the same concept as the first. Now the final hour has come and the only thing Batman needs to do now is to get to the top of the giant cathedral and stop the Joker before he gets away in the helicopter.
Conclusion:
Ocean did a real good job work on this one. One of the best movie based games to be found in the Amiga. Batman rules!
LONG LIVE THE AMIGA!

Nicely drawn graphics and beautiful colours on every level!
The background is doing its job perfectly when you're driving the plane and the car.
You get the feeling your vehicles are furiously fast and that makes the driving and the flying part of the game so much fun!

The music is good and the sounds are good, but nothing special.
There are also some sounds recorded from the original movie, which gives the feeling of the movie while playing.

PERFECT PLAYABILITY! All the levels have great variety and makes you wanna come back for more.
Sometimes it is frustrating when you die and have to start from level 1 all the time. That's why I gave it 9 instead of 10.
There are no passwords or save functions, but that is okay, because it is not a huge game.

"WHO ARE YOU!?"
"I'm Batman!"
Yeah! Batman rules and it is very fun to control the dark knight and use all his wonderful toys. Batman fans got what they wanted back in 1989 and it is a pity that not all games based on a movie can be as good as this.
Batman is a marvellous game! |
