I came across this game completely by accident. So far as I can tell it's a story set in Linoleum(!) which follows the antics of a fledgling space explorer. He is determined to prove that he has discovered the legendary planet of earth (gasp!). Sadly his peers mock him openly and scoff at his 'obvious fantasies'. So this is where you as the player comes in - get to earth and record it on camera. Subsequently to return as a hero!
It's a point and click affair, in a similar vein to Day of The Tentacle or Maniac Mansion.
Whilst this won't keep you going for an eternity, there are enough fresh challenges here to keep you clicking away for a few hours. Yes! I did say a few hours. Those of you who are familiar with this sort of game may well have it conquered in no time.
These point and click sections are interweaved with (often annoying) action platform sections. These only serve to slow you slightly and see you leaping from platform to platform avoiding beasties. This is all very generic from the start. Collect objects, dodge critters, don't fall down holes, you get the drift! These only act as a filler and do not hold up well in their own right. (Mario would not be amused!)
The fact that I played it to completion when I have an X-box 360 sitting next to me must surely be recommendation enough for someone who feels like dabbling in what is, in my opinion, a sadly under represented genre.

For the era everything is functional but not awe-inspiring. Does the job nicely though.

A few grating and annoying ditties really grind into your head after a while!

If it's your sort of thing then you will find a reasonably rewarding game with a mild difficulty curve. The game itself is sadly short-lived.

I played it to the end which suggests that it wasn't mind-numbingly boring. However Cosmic Spacehead has little to offer in the genre that we haven't seen before.
Try it out, you might like it. |
