1000 Miglia is a game based on the famous 1000 miles rally that takes place every year in Italy using only 1930's race cars. This game was released on both C64 and Amiga.
On C64 this game was an utter disaster. This could mainly have been because the developers had to compromise due to the inherit limitations of C64 compared to Amiga. In the Amiga version, same as C64, after the beautiful intro screen and an excellent music the main menu comes up. You are given the option to restore a game, choose from real pilots, create your own pilot or change the language to Italian. Choosing from real pilots is fun, since the game provides you with some background information for each driver and their cars. Creating your own pilot characteristics and choosing a car for him is even more fun.
After finishing each stage you need to use your hard-earned money to buy spare parts for your car. This adds a nice element to the game. Any time during the race you can check the map and evaluate your progress.
Sound fun so far, eh? Well here is where the whole crumbles, because the actual racing part of the game stinks. Gone are the excellent graphics, instead they are replaced by very poorly designed cars, tracks and backgrounds. The driving of the car is as boring as hell. The tracks are straight most of the time and even when they bend, it doesn't require much effort to stay on them. The engine sound is very annoying.
The whole thing is just too pathetic to be called a racing game.
But to give credit where credit is due, 1000 Miglia is probably the first game which took into account the reliability issues of the car in the racing conditions. Although this feature wasn't implemented perfectly, it was innovative for the time and gave the game a feeling of originality. If you are after a racing game, this one is not for you. But if you want to experience other aspects of being in a race, you might enjoy this one. |

The intro screens are excellent, but the rest of the game is not up to par with it.

Again the intro tune is good, but the in-game sound of the engine sounds almost as bad as the C64 version.

The racing part of the gameplay is very weak. The pilot creation and repairing parts are fun, but not enough to salvage the game.

|
| Although much better than the C64 version, still not good enough to be worthy of your time. |
