This is my second review of Street Fighter. The first part is on the "Street Fighter II: The World Warrior's" page. I would recommend you to read that one first, then this one.
Super Street Fighter! A "remake" of a classic.
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior was the second game in the series after "Street Fighter (1)" and had MUCH more success. The World Warrior made the game famous and the reason we all know about it then and today.
The World Warrior was so successful that they didn't want to make a sequel (Street Fighter 3?) which could ruin it. So why not make Street Fighter II better? And this is the game. It is called SUPER Street Fighter II: The New Challengers! It is more of an upgrade or an improvement of World Warrior. And to tell the truth, it IS better! Read on and I will tell you about the improvements that has been added on to the game:
The Improvements:
The game has been improved in graphics and sounds. The characters have more sounds than they had in World Warrior.
More fighting tricks have been added to the regular characters. That's GREAT! You can pick all the characters in SIX different colours! You can also fight against yourself. What I mean is that you can fight against the same character as you are playing, (example: Ryu vs. Ryu) but you cannot wear the same colours on your clothes as your enemy.
A REALLY great thing is that you can now also control the four "bosses" in the game, which you couldn't in World Warrior (Balrog, Vega, Sagat and Bison).
A GREAT improvement! Both 1 and 2 player mode is now even more fun now!
The New Challengers
The title says "The New Challengers". So there are some new challengers in this game, another excellent improvement! The game has in all 16 characters. I will now tell you about the 8 regulars, (Ryu, Honda, Blanka, Guile, Ken, Chun-Li, Zangief and Dhalsim) the 4 "bosses" (Balrog, Vega, Sagat and Bison) and the 4 new challengers:
(NOTE: To read more about the 8 regular and the 4 bosses, go to The World Warrior review.)
T. Hawk: From Mexico. A tall Indian fighter. Very skilled with his hand-blows and flight-attacks!
Fei Long: From Hong Kong. Fei Long is a master in martial arts. He is quick to move and attack. Known for his fiery leg attack!
Dee Jay: From Jamaica. Dee Jay is good with both his hands and legs. Wears small boxing gloves in battle. A very good fighter!
Cammy: From England. The second female fighter (the other being Chun-Li) Cammy is very good to attack both on the ground and in the air. Her speciality is her powerful blows with her legs.
Ruy vs. Fei Long in Fei Long's home court (Hong Kong)
Attack Skills:
I have introduced the new characters and will now tell you about the attack types you can use during battle:
There are six types of attacks you can do with all of your characters:
You have the weak, the middle and the strong fist attack. The strongest are of course the most recommended since it does most damage. The weaker attack you use, the quicker you attack though.
The three others are the weak, the middle and the strong leg attacks. They work exactly the same way as with the fists, but only with the legs instead.
Pretty simple and works perfectly! Try to find out all the secret tricks with the characters and have fun!
Ryu vs. T. Hawk in T. Hawk's home court (Mexico)
Conclusion:
All in all Street Fighter II: The New Challengers is a GREAT game and the improvements are very satisfying.
There is also another version of Street Fighter II called "Turbo." I'm not very familiar with that game though. "The New Challengers" is the one in the series that I would recommend the most! Let the street fight begin! |
