Crazy Cars III 1992, Titus Software

Back in the late 80's, before the 90's arrived, Titus Software hadn't yet made unforgettable Amiga gems like The Blues Brothers, Duck Tales, Prehistorik, Titus The Fox and of course, Crazy Cars III. So Titus wasn't very successful yet. But luckily they didn't give up because of that. Soon it was finally the turn of Titus to prove they could make great games in the Amiga world, and Crazy Cars III is one of them and one they can be very proud of.

Titus made many cars/racing games in the late 80's including Fire & Forget I & II and Crazy Cars I & II. Sadly they were all panned and hated by most Amiga fans because they were so unplayable. Although they didn't have the worst graphics at the time, but as you know graphics don't necessarily make good games.

A new decade had begun and still Titus didn't give up after two panned Crazy Cars games. They attempted to make a third instalment in the Crazy Cars series and I know they have really pulled themself together this time because Crazy Cars III is a quality racing game! It's brilliant! It's nice to look at, it's challenging, and most importantly fun!

Racing in U.S.A.
When you are ready to race, you have to click on one of the stars on the map which takes place outside a city or in a city. You also get information on how much money you will earn, which rivals you will compete against and how hard it is.

Gambling:
As you proceed in the game you have to work out how much money you dare to bet in every race against your rivals. Your rivals will also bet high. If you can outspeed your rivals and win the race, You will win a lot of money I can tell you!

This is a really great part of the game! This game is not only about racing to the finish line as in most racing games, but you also gamble your money and use them to upgrade your car. So you're not only out of luck if you lose a race, but also if you lose all your money! It's a risky game where you take chances. It's challenging, and that's what we want in a game.

The gambling and upgrading part really makes this game more then just a racing game, it makes the game more innovative.

The Race:
There is no timer but still you have to drive as fast as you can! You need to get to the finish line before your rivals do. Make sure you upgrade your car with the money you earn and use the turbo if you can. You gotta love the turbo! You drive so madly fast you won't stop using it! The road turns into a blur, and when you are racing downhill your car will jump highly up in the air. At least then you can jump over those stupid Sunday drivers that stand in your way, hehe!

Do know that there are cops out there that highly dislike you, your rivals, the illegal gambling and exceeding the speed limit. If you see a cop, I would recommend that you slow down, hoping the cops will chase one of your rivals instead, THEN speed up. The cops will cause a lot of damage on your car when they have started to chase you, so try to get rid of them as fast as you possibly can!

Conclusion:
Crazy Cars III is a magnificent game and one of the best racing games in Amiga history. It's up there with Lotus! Yes, it's THAT good.

Since Crazy Cars III has more then just the racing part in it, it makes the game so much more involving. Win the race, win money, upgrade your car, repair the damage, gambling with your rivals and you have so many locations in America to drive!

If you want to play Crazy Cars III, you're in for a real treat!

Bravo Titus!

Review Summary
GRAPHICS: 9 / 10
The road is smooth and beautiful. It really looks like you are driving illegally fast!

SOUND: 8 / 10
I love those roaring sounds, and the sound of turbo is outstanding!
I hate to hear the police sirens but the sounds is still awesome!

Really good work with the sound effects, you can hear when your rivals and cops are near or far away from you.

PLAYABILITY: 9 / 10
Innovative, challenging and playable!
You can also save during gameplay so you can continue where you stopped.

This game doesn't have a 2-player mode, but don't worry. There is a game called "Lamborghini American Challenge" which is exactly the same game as this one, only with an added 2-player mode! Enjoy!

OVERALL: 9 / 10
I have to congratulate Titus alot for finally making a great establishment in the Amiga history. (Especially under the racing genre)

Two big thumbs up!
