Newzealand Story, The 1989, Ocean

"The New Zealand Story" is a very good conversion that shouldn't be ignored by Amiga users.

I've spent so much time on this game from the very moment I first I laid my hands on it. Hey, I still spend a lot of quality time with this game today, it's so entertaining. I love the colourful graphics, the cute music and sound effects - the simple but very innovative gameplay, I just love it!

Rescue your friends

The story is very simple. The main character is a brave little Kiwi who is playing with all his Kiwi brothers and sisters. Suddenly a giant blue Walrus unexpectedly kidnaps all of the relations and puts them all in a sack. Tiki (the main character)luckily escapes from the sack, but sadly only him. He must rescue his family who has been spread all over different locations in New Zealand. They are caged so he has to find them and unlock the cages (no key required).

Tiki is armed with bow and arrows, so he should be able to wipe out all the enemies that stands in his way and the are many other weapons you can acquire.

He may be able to rescue all his siblings, but that depends on YOU! Good luck!

At the end of every fourth level, you will challenge a boss where you have to hit them at a special spot.

The New Zealand Story is a very innovative game. There's more you can do in this game then just jump and shoot. Sometimes the enemies will attack you in some funny flying objects like a balloon or a spaceship. You can often use them to fly around with. Be sure you wipe out the enemy that uses the flying object first.

Many of flying objects with your arrows or spikes found on some maps. Don't worry if you get stuck because you have destroyed all the flying objects with your arrows, another will always appear if you take a step or two back.

Your Kiwi can also dive under water so be sure you don't run out of oxygen. If you re-surface you'll be able to spit water on at enemies. That causes just as much damage as your arrows and replenishes your oxygen (I always thought the spitting part was an awesome idea for this game!).

So as you can see, there are many cool things you can do in this game!

So if you could get it, or if you already own it, stop reading and play this classic just one more time.

Review Summary
GRAPHICS: 9 / 10
Clever, colourful and cute, and I can say that they weren't made in hurry because you won't find any boring graphics anywhere in this game! Nice work, really nice!

SOUND: 8 / 10
The music is thrilling and catchy. It's also lovely, it's perfect for this game! So are the sound effects! (though there aren't many of them).

PLAYABILITY: 9 / 10
It is a standard jump'n'shoot platform game but at the same time The New Zealand Story has that "special" something which is so unique and gives the game it's own style. I haven't experienced any other platform games that is like this one.

OVERALL: 9 / 10
Do something for me, give The New Zealand Story a go today for nostalgia's sake. I guarantee you won't regret it!
